Nightreader'S Notes

I'm told keeping a journal is a good way to stay organized (at least, that's what my mother says) so I'm giving it a go.

This notebook will contain my class notes and some essays as well as random thoughts about my daily life at Hogwarts.

Entry 7 - Hom L2 Notes

Chapter 5

I was so happy when the History of Magic book finally became available in digital form, it costs a fortune to send things all the way to Iceland so there's no way I could afford getting a physical copy. I stayed up until late finishing the first three chapters, they were so interesting! I've also got my copies of Magical Theory and Quintessential Magic, I can't wait to start both of them!

Since today I had my second HOM lesson, here are my notes from class:

*Lots of theories on how magic started but 3 main ones
   -Theory of Uno Mas
   -Great Migration Theory
   -Theory of Hocus Pocus
*Theory of Uno Mas:
-Says all magic came from one man called Uno Mas
-Uno Mas = First Magi in ancient Aramaic
-Called the father of all wizards and witches
-Supposed to have created the first wand
-Said to have lived in the time of the dinosaurs (before cavemen)
-Official presentation of the theory by William Marangue
*Migration theory:
-Says that during the Descent of Blizz (Ice Age) wizards and witches left the muggles
     -lived together before that
-The magical settlers said to have founded many wizarding cities we know today
-Famous historian Ho Mao Tseng followed their tracks in 1535
*trail ended and he thought they died in an avalnce
-In the 1800's some Gringotts Curse Breakers found the trail didn't end there
*found a lot of old stuff from a magical group who migrated west to France
-Theory says there's a Natural Progression to magic
*so does the Hocus Pocus theory
*Hocus Pocus Theory:
-Says that magic came naturally rather than from a first wizard
-Focuses on the magic itself rather than the users
-Says women could use magic as a form of persuasion (note* part in the HOM book about
    presenting tamed giant lizards)
   -Natural Progression of magical tendancies
*Natural Progression defined as: "Nature forces habits upon men who react
      differently than wizards."
-The evidence about this theory is a birch bark manuscript
*Kept in the Brussels Museum of Ancient Magical History
*Professor Hugo Bjorken (Sr. Curator and Magical Anthropologist) keeps it there
*People and evidence against each theory:
-Guy named Dr. Josiah Loppet wrote an Anti-Uno Mas Theory book (actual title of the book xp)
*Uno Mas Theory claims men lived with dinosaurs which we know isn't true
*Loppet also mentions it would mean we're all super closely related
-Uno Mas most widely accepted theory but most scholars think Hocus Pocus theory is more likely
-Loppet believed strongly in the Hocus Pocus Theory
*Worked with Professor Bjorken to get the birch bark manuscript
-Ho Mao Tseng called the father of the migration theory but many believe if he were around
today he would side with the Hocus Pocus theory

I got a 100% on the exam at the end of class, probably because I'd already devoured the first 3 chapters of the textbook ^^ I also finished the special assignment of saying which theory I agreed with and why, but I'm going to take my time this weekend in finishing the essay professor Balog set. I already can't wait for next class, everything is so interesting!
