Nightreader'S Notes
I'm told keeping a journal is a good way to stay organized (at least, that's what my mother says) so I'm giving it a go.
This notebook will contain my class notes and some essays as well as random thoughts about my daily life at Hogwarts.

Entry 11 - Dada L2 Notes/The Horrors Of An Eager Student
Chapter 10
I finally have some time away from the muggle world to take the second DADA lesson! Hopefully I'll be able to fit in the next ASTR lesson soon as well, I really want to study more... but my muggle school studies are interesting too D: The horrors of an eager student x.x
I suppose I'll just have to do what I can today, then focus mostly on muggle school for the next week (final exams are this Friday, next Wednesday and next Friday), then I can focus on Hogwarts more again. Wouldn't it be nice to have a time turner and be able to study everything at the same time without having to worry about time passing too fast?
Anyways, DADA lesson was fun! I knew Lumos quite well before and I'd seen the other two spells used but never used them myself. Spongify especially is going to be a useful addition to my repertoire.
-Lumos:
*Wand-Lighting Charm
*Not a fire, just light
*Normal charge: yellow light, overcharge: scarlet light, undercharge: dimmed white light
*Possible to control how bright the light you cast is
*Can be used to defend against spectres and some dark forces
*Movement: a counterclockwise loop, starting to the left
*To turn off the light use the counter spell; Nox
- Movement: a quick flick of the wand
*Pronunciation: LOO-mos
-Spongify:
*Softening Charm
*Only softens some objects/surfaces
-Currently no one knows why
*Works on: most hand held things and wooden surfaces/objects
*Does not work on: Most metal and stone, living things
*Doesn't soften like pillow soft but rather rubbery and bouncy
-you can 'squish' the object a bit xp
*Used in defence to stop yourself from being hurt if you, for example, bump into something
-parents use it a lot to protect young kids
*Pink-purplish light comes from the wand and the objects you focus the spell on will glow pink
*Lasts from a few seconds to an hour depending on the strength of the spell
*Movement: Start in the upper right and make an S movement
*Pronunciation: SPUHN-jee-fye
-Charging a spell:
*Concentrate on the spell for a while before releasing it
-for a beginner it's good to draw out the movement and speak more slowly to do it
-proper way is to simply hold it back until you've charged it to the amount you want
*Overcharging is dangerous!
-Strong spell:
*Different from a charged spell
*Needs a lot of practice and/or a lot of talent
*Strength controlled by the force you put into it
-Verdimillious:
*Shoots out green sparks from the tip of the wand
*Can be used to: reveal objects cloaked by dark magic, be a small light source, confuse or
slightly injure someone in a duel, just for show (pretty green sparks!)
*Vermillious = sister spell, makes red sparks instead of green and is slightly more powerful
*Movement: A forwards slash or jab
*Pronunciation: vur-duh-MILL-ee-us
-For Vermillious it's vur-MILL-ee-us
*If focused on someone/hits someone they will feel mild stinging on their skin and can be
knocked back a bit and feel disoriented
