Getting there

Chapter 1
For anyone who knows me I am certainly more of a cheerer than a player BUT in the summer of 1994, I was allowed to go to the Quidditch World Cup. It was being held in Dartmoor, England. It was incredibly exciting. For those that don’t know I had been dating Cedric Diggory: seeker of the Hufflepuff team. I was best friends with Fred and George Weasley: beaters on the Gryffindor team, and friends with Harry Potter: seeker for Gryffindor, Ginny Weasley: chaser for Gryffindor, Charlie Weasley: ex-seeker for Gryffindor, so as you can see Quidditch was a big part of my life, it is for everyone really.

It was something we would also play down low when I stayed at The Burrow. Fred and George would bagsy the beater positions, so I played chaser. The problem was I wasn’t any good at it. Not compared to Ginny. She was brilliant but I enjoyed playing beater.

So, after being on holiday with Uncle Severus I went to stay with the Diggory family. That is where I was completely blown away. It seems that Mr Amos Diggory had been sending owls throughout the summer with my uncle and I was now being permission by the Ministry of Magic, Department of Magical Games and Sports to attend the first Quidditch match to be held in Britain for the last 30 years. My joy when I found out was overwhelming. I jumped, I ran, my hair sparked colours of all different sorts. It was incredible and I was going with Cedric.

I spent the best time with them. They live in Ottery St Catchpole, near the Weasleys and Lovegoods but they had a completely different way of life. I never knew whether it is because they had more money or because they had a smaller family. Being from a city, country life was always exciting to me. I had been through our collection of books and read-up on everything quidditch related that I could but at Cedric’s I could ride a broom and have a more dynamic discussion about it. His father, Amos Diggory, was more interested in making and testing out portkeys. By means of transport they are fairly difficult to get right and it seems he hadn’t created on in quite some time. He made two test portkeys, luckily nothing went wrong and it gave us some practice in travelling by portkey. Not that it was my first time but it usually made me feel sick. Mr Diggory however, gave me some wonderful words of encouragement and as I let go, I was able to glide gently down, as if walking down an invisible flight of stairs.

It was two in the morning when we had to get up, but we got moving. We packed quite a lot in ruck-sacks and at several points, I got tired and transfigured into a dormouse and was carried. Me and Cedric were still underage and unable to apparate so that’s why we were using the portkey. For the final we were joined by Arthur, Fred, George, Ron & Ginny Weasley, Harry Potter & Hermione Granger. There were various locations dotted around the world and according to what type of ticket you help dictated when you had to arrive at the location of the match. We had to be there two weeks before the actual match. The nearest location to us was at Stoatshead Hill. It’s a nice place, just the other side of where we play quidditch sometimes. Long way from the Diggory Dell though. I was so thankful that I had done this before. When I saw the was that the others landed it was so funny.
