Chapter 2 - Grandpa
Chapter 2
Many weeks later, Loren was still sitting in her bed eating Ben & Jerry's ice-cream. The sadness of leaving Max was still there. The TV was on and some junk show was playing. Loren got up and went to the freezer, pulling out the last tub of ice-cream. She walked back to her bed and started to open the lid. She looked out of the window. The post man was delivering packages and letters. She counted 5 seconds and then she heard the letterbox flap. She got up lazily from her bed and made her way downstairs.
She picked up the mail. One was a postcard from her 'best friend', to say sorry. She threw that away immediately. The second was a magazine that gets delivered to your house as something you're never actually going to read, and the third was a letter. She recognized the hand-writing as her grandmother's. She walked back up to her room and opened the letter. This is what it said,
Loren,
It has been a while since we last talked. I miss you ever so much and I hope we can see each other soon. I am writing you the letter on a rather serious note.
Last time we did meet, your grandfather was ill. As you may remember, we visited him in hospital.
Once you had left, he told me he loved us. You. Our family. I couldn't stand seeing him like this. My love, going. How was this possible? I stayed with him until he closed his eyes. I couldn't bare it.
I'm so sorry Loren. He loved you so, so much. He loved you, me, your mother and father. He was such an amazing man. I hope to see you soon and I love you too.
Lots and lots of love,
Grandma xxx
Loren stared at the paper. A splash of water hit it. She wiped her eyes. No. Not again, yet there they were, the tears in her eyes.
