Gryffindor DADA
Chapter 1
When you get a new Professor ESPECIALLY a Defence against the Dark Arts GRYFFINDOR one. You want to find out as much as you can about them.
I already had a head start on my fellow students but this year was very exciting. It seemed that Professor Lupin and Professor Snape had history. What kind of history, no-one could work out, but they didn’t seem to like each other, that was sure. As usual the new teacher introduces themselves and tells you what you are going to be learning about.
He mentioned that he was born in 1960, started Hogwarts in 1971 and was sorted into Gryffindor. To which every Gryffindor was by now, was beaming. What I realised was that he started Hogwarts at the same time as my uncle. I think I gave it away by counting on my fingers. So, they were in the same class but different houses. I started putting the pieces together. This meant that he was also only a few years younger than my mother. I only know this because my uncle told me she was a few years older than him. I won’t deny that sometimes I sat a little in awe of him. This is a man that had sat at the same dinner table as the woman I was never to know. He had spoken to her.
There were many hands in class that shot up to ask questions. There always are. Mine stayed down. It wasn’t until the end of the day that I plucked up courage to go to his office. I knocked on the door and a cool voice answered
“Come in”.
“I’m sorry to disturb you professor” I said, my voice a little on the wobbly side.
“Louisa, enjoying your first day back?”, I’d been back a while but I wasn’t going to say that.
“Yes sir. I wanted to say, I hope that I didn’t make a bad impression when you came over the other week.” This had been on my mind for some time. I do hate to disappoint.
“Of course not, Miss Snape, but I sense that it not the reason you have come today?” He had a great way of perceiving people.
“Sir I was wondering, in fact I know so little and you so much,” my voice was still wobbling but for a different reason.
“How well did you know Severina Snape? She, she…”
“Ah, your mother” He managed to finish what I was saying. “Well we were friends. She was a little older than me but a Gryffindor as I’m sure you know.” He sat down on his desk with a book in his hands. “I remember her as a very insightful person. Very kind.”
“Much like my… I mean…” I had forgotten myself just for a moment.
“Like Severus? No, I would say more so.”
I looked down, it probably looked like confusion but to be honest I was just trying to take it all in. For once someone was willing to tell me about her personality.
“Not what you were hoping for?”
“No, I mean yes, it’s just I don’t get to hear about her much.”
“I thought as much.” I didn’t really knew what this meant but I realised that he knew what my uncle was like more than her and that he didn’t want to talk about her.
“I think perhaps you should get back to your dorm room now Louisa.”
