He barely heard her before he was up and leaving. She stood up, calling after him, but he ignored her. He grabbed his gloves, and slammed the door behind him. He took off running the moment the door was closed. He heard the door open and his mother yelling after her, but he continued to ignore her.
He didn’t even pay attention to where he was going, just away. He could feel the tears streaking down his face, and he wiped them away. If he just avoided going home tomorrow, he wouldn’t have to meet her. Maybe Inko might even rethink the whole “arranged marriage” thing and let him find his own wife.
Not that he would want to find a wife, but he would have to suffer through it. Not like anyone cared if he quietly lived his life married to someone he doesn’t actually love. Or could ever love. All because he was a stupid, idiotic, kid who love-
He tripped over a root, not noticing it was there. He tumbled down the hill in front of him, landing in the river at the bottom. He lay there for a bit, not moving. He couldn’t tell if the water running down his face were tears or river water.
After what felt like an hour, he pushed himself up, soaking wet. He took off his gloves, trying to dry his hair, but without prevail. He sighed, standing up. That’s when he noticed Katsu.
The poor Draiyd had changed to a weird purplish blue, and his eyes were now a bright green. “What the…” he said, picking him up. Izuku lifted the Draiyd to his face, and got a spray of water right in his eyes. He rubbed the water out of his eyes, confused.
“Katsu?” he asked, unsure if it was the right Draiyd. Had he somehow squished a Water Draiyd? If it was in fact Katsu, why was he blue and spitting water? What was happening?
The Draiyd nudged his hand, climbing up onto his shoulder. Definitely Katsu. So...what just happened? Izuku shook his head. Maybe the books back home would have something that could tell him.
Izuku looked around, surprised at how far he had gotten. He didn’t recognize the trees around him, and he knew the woods around his house like the back of his hand. He had traveled much farther than he meant to.
“What time is it…” he wondered to himself. He couldn’t see the sky, but he had a feeling it was dark. He rubbed the Draiyd’s head, dragging himself out of the river. “Well, where there’s water, there should be a town, right?” he asked him, looking at Katsu. Katsu tilted his head, the strange color starting to fade.
Izuku started following the river, unsure if he would make it to any kind of civilization before Moon Rise. He looked up, hoping he could spot the sun in the sky. Nothing. He lowered his head, sighing.
He dragged himself out of the river, sitting underneath a big tree. After Sunfall, rain was a regular occurrence, so you had to be prepared. Izuku curled his feet towards himself, poking at the ground. What was he gonna do if he couldn’t get home? Would he just...live out here? Yeah, he wanted adventure, but not like this. He wanted to be prepared, he wanted to be ready. This wasn’t what he was expecting.
He sighed and got up. He turned to the tree, and started climbing it. He managed to climb up to a spot where he could see the sky and rest at the same time. He moved a few branches out of the way, standing up. Sure enough, Moonrise was already on its way. Sunfall seemed to have happened around ten minutes ago.
Izuku climbed back down the tree, sighing. He found a few loose branches, and dropped them down. Once he was back on the ground, he arranged the branches similar to the way one would set up a campfire. He picked up Katsu, who coughed a few more times before managing to breathe a spurt of flame.
Izuku sat next to the fire, absent-mindedly petting Katsu, watching the flames. He sighed, closing his eyes, hoping to get some rest during the night.
