Scene 5
Chapter 5
Scene 5
From the back of the shop MR BORGIN comes out, grumbling as he does so about lost treasures. He sees LOUISA & NEVILLE standing there and is most surprised.
MR BORGIN
Well Hello! Young ones. What is it I can do for you?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Condolences perhaps would be a start? Her tone was slow
MR BORGIN
Oh, my dear! Of course, I wouldn’t dream of thinking anything else!
Your uncle was a wonderful man and owned so many wonderful items. Such a shame.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
You thought nothing of my father?
MR BORGIN
Your father? Why I didn’t even know him! How could I think anything of him?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Really? Because as I recall he worked for you, a great number of years.
MR BORGIN
A Snape? No, you must be confused! Nobody has worked for me for many years.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
I know, and yet many of my father’s items sit in your shop do they not?
MR BORGIN
Glancing at Neville. It, must have been a most distressing thing. To lose both your uncle and father at the same time. The… glances again at Neville Mr Riddle was indeed a most diligent employee.
Do you not live in the same house?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
I do, but it is, not quite as he left it.
MR BORGIN
Do you have business with me? Or is it simply a matter of your return?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Both, possibly. There will be people coming to you that desire to get rid of valuable assets. I believe that the Ministry would be indebted to you for any participation that you played?
MR BORGIN
Would they? And if yourself were to get rid of anything?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Me? Why would I do that? I have no interest in getting rid of valuable family heirlooms! What I have is simply worth something to me. Nobody else.
She fingers certain items on the shelves.
MR BORGIN
Of Course. My mistake. Do you have a list perhaps of noted guarantors?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Oh, that won’t be necessary. Only if an item of note comes into your possession. Shall we say that warrants a step in the right direction.
MR BORGIN
As the Ministry wants.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
I’m so glad you see it that way.
Good day to you Mr Borgin.
MR BORGIN
Miss Snape, he bows, louisa and neville leave or Riddle or whatever you call yourself.
NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM
Nice one. So, you have previous with him?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
A bit. Anyone that new Voldemort has been to that shop.
NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM
My parents must have been!
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
I’m sure.
NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM
My gran has.
He mentioned your father worked there… is that true? Feeling uneasy
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Yeah, he was only a bit older than us, I think. Come on next shop.
They, carried on through several shops in Knockturn Alley and then into Diagon Alley to get some supplies and finally returned to the Ministry where they found the others.
