My Cheese Didn't Come!
Chapter 8
The Yule Ball was that night. All eight friends were quite excited. Rhianna was probably the most nervous though. Evan had asked her to go with him and she'd said yes. Unfortunately, this meant that she'd have to open the ball. Sure, she was okay at dancing but that didn't stop her from being nervous. Evan had kept up his don't-care attitude but inside he was completely freaking out. He didn't care really what others thought of him, but still!
"Come on, let's go and get ready!" Hermione called, midway through their snowball fight.
"But, Hermione!" Jocelyn moaned.
"What?" Hermione snapped.
"There's six hours until the ball!" Ella cried.
"So?" Hermione said. "We've got to get ready!"
The four girls groaned, knowing that there was no point arguing their case further. They walked over to the boys.
"Hermione is making us go and get ready," Rhianna said to them. The four boys started giggling.
"HaHa, losers!" Lucas joked.
"It's not funny!" Eloise complained. The boys laughed harder.
"See you in six hours, at the ball then," Evan laughed.
"If we survive it!" Ella said, only half joking.
"Good luck!" all four boys said.
"Watch out, incoming!" Lucas yelled just as a snowball flew towards Ella. Ella acted on instinct and made a full circle to dodge it. Her friends all looked at her in confusion.
"What?" Eloise cried.
"But you're terrible at sport!" Rhianna said.
"How did you of all people manage that?" Jocelyn finished incredulously. Ella shrugged embarrassed. The boys laughed at her and soon all four girls were laughing too. They then waved goodbye to the boys and turned away. The four girls trudged up to the room of requirement, Rhianna had suggested it, thinking it would be nice to get ready together.
"Ew," Ella said in disgust. 'ew' indeed. The room was filled with hairdresser tables and salon style thingies (None of the friends had any idea what they were) and a massive wardrobe with the girls outfits in.
"It's brilliant," Parvati sighed. Practically every girl in the school was in this massive hideous room. Hermione came over to the girls, she had managed to set fire to some of her hair using muggle curling-tongs (I think that's what they're called, I don't do girly stuff!). Her periwinkle blue dress was beautiful and even the girls could tell.
"Come here," Rhianna sighed, taking the machine out of her hair. She then got Ella to put out the fire and restore her hair back to normal.
"We done yet?" Ella said, in vain hope.
"No, you're not even dressed," Hermione said in a 'duh' tone. She took the girls from the friend group over to the wardrobe. The four girls all took out their outfits.
"What are they?" Hermione shrieked, pointing at the clothes the girls had picked. Rhianna and Josie both had hoodies and jeans, Eloise had picked out some shorts and a t-shirt and Ella had chosen dungarees and a checked shirt.
"Clothes," Eloise said, laughing lightly. Hermione picked up each of the friend's clothes and took the items over to an ironing board. First off, she took Jocelyn's hoodie and ran the iron over it. The hoodie changed into a dress. It was pretty but there was no chance Jocelyn was wearing that.
"I. Am. Not. Wearing. That," Jocelyn said. Hermione huffed and ran the iron over it again. It changed into another dress, this one wasn't as showy so Jocelyn gave in and gingerly took the dress, looking at it as if it had betrayed her. Next was Rhianna's turn. Hermione ran the iron over Rhianna's hoodie.
"You're going to have to have something showy and nice," Hermione warned. "You're opening the ball."
Rhianna sighed but let Hermione do it anyway. The hoodie changed into a very showy but okay dress for Rhianna. Sure, it wasn't something she'd pick but it was a dress so it couldn't be. She went over to join Jocelyn.
"Eloise?" Hermione asked. Eloise looked to the young witch apprehensively. Hermione changed Eloise's top into a dress. It was sparkly and showy but it was fine, Eloise took it and walked to the others. She changed Ella's dungarees into a dungaree type dress and white t-shirt. Ella sighed in relief.
"That's hideous," Hermione exclaimed.
"I'm either wearing that or the actual dungarees," Ella said. "Take your pick."
"Dress!" Hermione said quickly shoving the dress into her hand and pushing her towards the other three. The three girls were in their dresses already. Ella changed too.
"How did you get that?" Jocelyn asked. Ella smirked, very glad that this was the dress that had been changed for her.
"It's what it turned into," Ella said.
"That's not a party dress," Rhianna said exasperatedly.
"You're just jealous that I don't have a showy one," Ella said.
"Are we done now?" Eloise asked the others.
"I doubt it but I hope so," Rhianna said. The four of them went to the door to leave but a voice called them back.
"What do you think you're doing?" Ginny asked. "Your hair isn't done. Neither's your makeup and Oh My Merlin, you're wearing trainers!"
"We're leaving?" Rhianna answered but it sounded more like a question.
"Get over here!" Ginny called. The four girls sighed and went over to the others. Ginny gestured for them to sit down. The four friends sat down in defeat. Ginny, Hermione, Parvati and Lavender did their hair and make-up.
"Finally!" they breathed when it was done. "Can we go now?"
"Of course not," Hermione answered briskly. The girls gaped at her in shock. "Nobody can see you all dressed up before the ball!"
"Ugh!" Jocelyn said.
"I wish there were books in here," Ella said.
"Yeah," Jocelyn and Rhianna said. Rhianna realised something. She thought hard for three books and they appeared.
"Of course!" Jocelyn said.
"We're in the Room of Requirement," Ella continued.
"If you think about what you need," Rhianna tried to finish.
Eloise cut her off, "It will appear!"
The other three looked at their friend in complete surprise. Ella's eyes were rounder than galleons, Rhianna's mouth was gaping like a fish and Jocelyn was just staring at their friend.
"I do know some things about it!" Eloise said indignantly, slightly offended. She then closed her eyes and thought hard for some cheese, she was hungry. Eloise opened her eyes. There was nothing there. "My cheese didn't come!"
"No," Ella said.
"Of course not!" Rhianna said.
"Food is one of the five exceptions to Gamp's law!" Jocelyn finished. The girls smiled at each other, but Eloise sighed in defeat. She thought for four beanbags and they arrived. the girls plonked themselves down onto them. The three bookworms started to read but Eloise fell off.
"Really?" Ella laughed at her friend. Eloise never seemed to be able to get onto those.
"You're going to crease your dresses!" Hermione screeched as she saw the girls. They rolled their eyes.

The four boys of the friend group were headed to the Great Hall for the Ball. None of them were that bothered about it, but Ron and Harry had insisted that if they had to wear dress robes so would the others. So, the boys were in dress robes, feeling like idiots, after all, dress robes were hardly modern muggle attire. They saw the girls.
"Off you go to your girlfriend then," Lucas teased. Ever since Evan had asked Rhianna to the ball, the boys had teased him relentlessly.
"Haha," Evan said dryly. "I think I will then."
Evan walked over to Rhianna. They both laughed at each other as they were in formal dress.
Minnie, as the friends had started to call her since Ella had started reading marauder fanfiction, led all of the other students into the hall. The six friends sat around a table, where James began dealing out the Go Fish cards.
After Evan and Rhianna finished their dancing, they joined the others at the table.
"That. Was. Horrible." Rhianna said. Evan nodded. The others laughed and dealt them in for the next round.
