The Lonely Tree
Chapter 13
Once upon a time there was a lonely tree. “But how can a tree be lonely? Especially in the middle of a forest?” Because some trees are humans with incredible emotions, and once you’ve heard them scream, you’ll do all you can to help.
There’s a difference between being an immortal human and an immortal tree. An immortal human can go on wonderful adventures and see magnificent things. A tree is stuck in one place, with only small birds and critters for company, and no way to express thoughts or feelings. So I decided to find this tree a friend.
The journey to find another human in the form of a tree was, as you might expect, incredibly difficult. I travelled as far and wide as I dared, from the very distant past to the almost non-existent future. Finally, after many lifetimes of searching, I found one other.
Now, all I had to do was venture back to the other not-tree, which was easier said than done. Many obstacles delayed me along the way and everything was made ten times harder because I was carrying a tree on my back!
The last hurdle was a manifestation of… danger? In other words, it was a creature who looked like the person most dear in your heart who then challenged you to a duel. In my case, it looked like my sister.
Luckily for me, and unluckily for it, my sister and I had duelled many a time (the worst of our casualties being a lost thumb for my sister and a permanent small hole in my neck for me) so I was beyond prepared. It was one of the best sword fights I had won in a long time, with the creature being a worthy opponent and Excalibur being a truly fantastic sword.
At last, after many drops of sweat and years of heartache, the lonely tree was lonely no more and had found someone who could understand the emotions and experiences both not-trees shared.
