Chapter four - The Morning of September 1st

Chapter four
It was last hectic than usual at the burrow for the morning of September 1st. We apperated to Kings Cross.
We were careful not to get caught by muggles as we ran through the wall onto the platform. Ron held my hand as we moved to our usual compartment.
Even though it has been over a year. It feels like we were here yesterday.
”Ron, I forgot to tell you I'm a head girl, so I have to go to the head's compartment. Are you a head boy?”
I asked, remembering mcgonagles letter.
“Oh, no” he replied “Maybe Neville?” Ron guessed.
“Nope” Neville stated suddenly in our compartment.
“Well I guess, I'll find out.”
With that I left our compartment and walked through the narrow walkway of the Hogwarts Express till I reached the head compartment.
I peeked through the window before pulling open the door.
I walked into the small mint scented compartment.
I looked up at the room to find Draco Malfoy sitting on the cotton filled compartment bench. “Malfoy,” I stated with a hint of disgust clouded over the surprise in my tone.
“Granger,” Malfoy stated calmly, “Before you bloody explode hear me out, I've changed, okay? The war changed people. I mean look at you for example.”
He looks me up and down. I felt thoroughly self-conscious but, no he was right. I did change not only mentally but, instead of cutting my hair right below my shoulders I let it fall down my back letting the weight pull out my bushy curls into wavy ringlets.
I changed in more ways than just my hair, I no longer cared what people thought of me. Rule breaking didn't bother me either (if it's for the right reasons). I looked at Draco.
He too had changed his hair, which was no longer bleach blonde but dirty blonde, he had darker skin.
I doubt this was from the war but, the dark mark no longer covered his arm. But, more importantly he's calm.
If I'm going to work with him, live with him, than I'm going to need more than calm.
“I want you to give me a second chance. I was a real twit when I was younger. After my dad went to Azkaban, My mom took care of me full time. She taught me differently than my dad did. I'm ashamed of how I acted towards you and Harry. I've changed, Granger, please give me a chance to show you. Please?”
Please? Did Draco Malfoy just ask for something not demand and say please?
I considered his offer. What did I have to lose? As long as I don't put too much faith into that he's changed I should be fine.
There's nothing. I've lost enough for a lifetime. I wonder what Harry and Ron would think. We hadn't discussed it after the war.
My mind deliberated only for a few long and drawn-out seconds before I nodded
“Fine, one chance.” I hesitated “I'm sorry but given our past....”
I trailed off
“it's more than I deserve,”
He paused and a light smile spread across his face.
“And I hope that me calling your boyfriend a weasel is now water under a first year's canoe. But come on, his last name is Weasley.”
Ok, he didn't change that much, so I don't need to check him for Polyjuice Potion. I can work with him, I have to. I'm not going to have my seventh year ruined by Draco Malfoy, and certainly not well on head girl.
Just as we ended our conversation, the compartment door was swung open by a flustered looking McGonagall.

Hey, readers, I will post another chapter of this book in a few weeks. We have lots of HDN books and will be rotating through one each week. Each chapter will be at least 500 words. Here is the link to all the chapters released so far: https://www.hogwartsishere.com/library/16322/
I love writing these books but, as the manager of HDN I don't have that much time, but would love to work a bit more!
