My Notes For All Core Subjects, Year One
written by Lindsay Clearwater
Updated version of the book "My Notes, From A Ravenclaw (Year 1)" by Anne Pickering. Here you can find my notes for all nine lessons from the seven main subjects; Astronomy, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, and Transfiguration. Remember that although there are notes here, I might have missed something and it is still extremely important to pay attention and take notes in your lessons. This is just to help struggling first-year students who think they may have missed vital information in the lesson. I will try to update one chapter/lesson every day. Day started: July 11 2020

WHAT IS HERBOLOGY?
- study & use of magical and non-magical plants
- use: medicinal, protective, educational, decorative
- each plant has its unique quirks and gifts (ex. oleander -- poisonous and common garden plant -- will kill you just as surely as a Venomous Tentacula
- herbologist: any witch or wizard who understands the properties & nature of plants, particularily one who uses their knowledge not only to grow plants, but to enrich the world around them in a multitude of ways
- advantages of learning/studying plants:
--> 1) ex. useful for being able to tell the difference btwn elder and holly wood when assessing the quality of your opponent's spells during a duel.
--> 2) If you are a Healer and you confuse a lesser celandine and marsh marigold, your patient could be in a very deep sleep instead of curing them.
--> 3) Potioneers & Healers need to be able to recognize differences btwn plants and be aware of toxicity hazards. ---> 4) Plants just keep this ecosystem well in general. (ex. potion ingredients cure illnesses, providing nourishment, keeping ecosystem in check.)
