Scene 3
Chapter 3
Scene 3
The pub is dimly lit with pictures of various unrecognisable people in it. A woman stands behind the bar.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Oh, hi, I was wondering if you could help me I I’ve been missing a few of my friends recently and I thought that maybe you could help me find them?
The woman, with a thick Irish accent looks up from the bar.
BAR WOMAN
It’s Louisa no?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Um, yes, I used to come in with my uncle?
BAR WOMAN
Snape?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
She gulps unintentionally.
Yes, you remember me?
BAR WOMAN
Not really. I remember him.
Hard face. What friend you lookin for?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Alec Franner? Looks down. I just wanted to speak to him. If he isn’t around if doesn’t matter.
BAR WOMAN
He’s around. But why’s someone like you’d be wanting to find a person like that I’ll never know.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
It’s… personal.
BAR WOMAN
It always is… Franner!! Girl for ya. Alec Franner comes from the depths of the pub with a barrel. He appears only to be around 16 or 18.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Hi, you won’t remember me but…
ALEC FANNER
I remember you. he cuts in. Over here points to a more sheltered spot
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
I didn’t realise I was so well-known in Ireland. Her English accent was starting to sound more and more out of place.
ALEC FANNER
Don’t get too up yourself. Professor Snape was a regular.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
We both were. She said sharply.
ALEC FANNER
Yeah well. Not anymore. Dark lord, Snape, all of ‘em gone. So, what do you want?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
For you to listen would be a good start. Is that your mum?
ALEC FANNER
Me Aunt, I’m listening.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
My father had me training to be an Auror.
ALEC FANNER
Your father? An Auror? What?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
You said you’d listen.
ALEC FANNER
Yeah yeah, I’m listening.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
They know you were part of Fenrir Greyback’s snatchers. His face goes pale.
Now I can either help or hinder the situation.
ALEC FANNER
You’re blackmailing me?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
No, I’m asking you, to help me. I really don’t see the point in getting a ton of snatchers put in Azkaban. However… she was thinking on her feet.
ALEC FANNER
Haha, you get a snatcher in Azkaban?
I’d like to see you try
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
You’re arrest has already been signed and those Aurors out there are waiting to take you in.
It’s simply a matter of when.
ALEC FANNER
You can’t get us. Not any of us. We’re too quick and we’ve done nothing wrong.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Wrong again. You forget who you’re talking to.
ALEC FANNER
What do you want?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
I reckon if you hand yourself in, with details of the other people, then I reckon I can get you a good deal. Maybe do something for me in return.
ALEC FANNER
So I still work for a Dark Lord?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
Lady.
ALEC FANNER
Of course. Should I round up the old gang?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
I think I have the capability to do that myself don’t you?
ALEC FANNER
Of course my lady.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
I’ll be in touch with them in time. For now you are a higher priority.
ALEC FANNER
Me? Why? Surely the others Harrison, Chester…
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
All things in their time.
For now you need to meet with the Aurors.
ALEC FANNER
But won’t they?
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
You don’t trust a Riddle?
ALEC FANNER
Of course I do my Lady but my Aunt.
LOUISA SNAPE-RIDDLE
I will see to it. Trust in the Aurors. I have them marked.
ALEC FANNER
Smiling I have no doubt my Lady.
