Chapter 2
Being the protective man that he was, I was asked to step out of the room and Cedric was asked various questions about me. I then had to answer a few about Cedric. It was made fairly clear that he would be watching us like a hawk. To be honest that didn’t seem to be anything new to me I just felt sorry for Cedric. It seemed that this would be a new form of interrogation for him.
I finally told Leanne who couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Louisa Snape with a boyfriend that Professor Snape approved of? Word quickly spread around the houses and quidditch teams thanks to Fred and George who started calling him “pretty boy” it got really annoying. Cedric was on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team as a seeker and any game between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor was a nightmare for us. It started a big rivalry between them because I wasn’t in their class, Cedric hated that I was friends with the Weasleys they played off of it and teased him about it. Making up things that were certainly not true. People thought I was weird and couldn’t see why a great guy like Cedric would be with someone like me. We just had to let it slide.
We worked out a way of sending messages to each other at meal times. They were little pieces of paper that would fly across the room and once read would burst into flames. Just a little something George and I concocted. I would also give things to the twins to take to class, but after a while we started getting… noticed. We were drawing far too much attention to ourselves and needed to be more discreet. We started coming up with new plans. Cedric really wasn’t the type for being cunning but he was very intelligent. I wouldn’t be half the witch I am today if it hadn’t been for him. The thing was if you put us together with his brain and my technique you had a very powerful and possibly dangerous combination.
At the end of my third year everyone was talking about the chamber of secrets. This got Cedric thinking, he came to me whilst I was at my favourite spot, by the tree in the courtyard and asked me how well I knew the castle corridors. I thought this was a joke and that Fred had taken Polyjuice Potion or something. I was dumbfounded. “What are you talking about?” I said. It turns out he had had an idea about me transfiguring to get to him. It was nothing new I had done it before but this might be a little bit different. I knew the corridors well but I didn’t need to transfigure unless it was to a ghost. He was smiling now. “I know them well enough I guess” was my answer, still not sure it wasn’t one of the twins… “I think you could, that you should, find a way from your common room to mine…” came the reply. I was shocked. How could he be saying this? I was still unsure and went off in search of the culprit.
Over the summer I went and stayed with the Diggory family it was a bit strange and I felt like I wanted to run away but they were so nice to me. I was supposed to stay with Weasleys after that but there was a break out at Azkaban and my uncle came and collected me. It felt as though the time went so quickly, we didn’t get to do half the things we had planned. We went to a quidditch game though Chuddley Cannons verses the Holyhead Harpies, it was brilliant. I had never actually been to a real match before. Fred & George would have been sick with jealousy! We did make a few plans for the next term though. It was all down to me becoming a sneak.
I wasn’t allowed on the train that September I was to go with my uncle before everyone arrived. It was terrible. I wanted so much to be on the train with Cedric but I couldn’t be. So instead I waited with Hagrid for them all to arrive. I was so hungry when they finally turned up and went on the carriages to the castle. I sat next to Cedric and we made up for lost time. I had been practising as much as I could over the last few days and finding the best way down from the Gryffindor tower to the Hufflepuff common room. I knew it fairly well but I worked out that if I transfigured into a mouse or a snake then I could get through a gap in the fireplace that led directly to the Hufflepuff fireplace. Easy. Every fireplace had a gap. You just had to find the hole and be brave enough to run into it. We started by making sure that we started with the notes like last year but only did it a little bit every day. We thought if we kept it small nobody would notice too much.
