The Possbilities of a Patronus A-D

Chapter 5
There are over 100 possible forms a witch/wizard's Patronus could take; they're all listed below including what significance they all have.

WARNING: many of these will be quite long; so get comfy if you plan to read them!

1. Aardvark
The aardvark has been long associated with courage, fearlessness, and not letting obstacles get in the way of a goal. Few things will stop a determined aardvark from getting what it wants. Those who identify with the aardvark will exhibit similar traits, refusing to let even the worst things get to them in pursuit of their goals. Aardvarks are first and foremost survivalists, and are all around tenacious individuals. If you managed to get the tough aardvark as a patronus, you are likely also a very tough person. Note that this does not necessarily translate to only the physical; those that have suffered great losses or difficulties and managed to carry on regardless, head held high, also show the strength of character that the aardvark exhibits.

2. Abraxan Winged Horse (very rare)
A breed of winged horse, gigantic in size and extremely powerful. They are selective eaters and usually require forceful handling. As a Patronus, they represent power, determination, and a free spirit. If your patronus is an abraxan winged horse, you find comfort in solitude. When you can step back on your own and take a deep breath, you can collect your thoughts and reach your peak performance. While you work well with others, you also enjoy being able to do your own thing, as that’s when you’re able to work without bounds and get things done your own way. This does not mean you’re unfriendly or do not enjoy working with others; in fact, you do quite well in groups or as a part of a team. You’re a great leader, actually. But if given the chance to work alone, you know that is what will bring out your best.

3. Adder (types of snake)
A powerful symbol in most cultures, with meanings like fertility, healing, change, energy, and the duality of good and evil. Having a Adder Patronus means you find comfort in change. You are incredibly flexible, but also sometimes can be cautious and can resist the pull of time – you, however, do not fear the never-ending wheel, seeing it as your wheel of fortune. Anything can happen – that is exciting and comforting to you. You never have to feel locked in or trapped, which appeals to your Thunderbird love of exploration. This guardian will always heal your emotional wounds and remind you that there is always a way out of whatever bad situation you get into and that for every evil there is in the world, there is also some good.

4. Albatross
If you have produced an albatross Patronus, perhaps you have a happy-go-lucky personality and enjoy throwing caution to the wind. The Dementors would be unlikely to get you down with this giant feathered friend soaring in to save the day. The albatross has long been considered a symbol of good luck, particularly by those who work on or travel at sea. People of the albatross are calm and graceful, with a great endurance that allows them to cruise through difficulties or lengthy endeavors with an ease that many wish they had. They generally try to bring fortune and some of that ease to the people in their lives, and are often relied upon as a stable “rock” for others to gravitate to in troubling times. It’s not unusal for an albatross to live a long life and have some of their calming nature rub off on those whose lives they touch in turn.

5. Badger
Badgers are known for their aggressiveness and territorial behaviors. They have no problem staking their claim and defending what is theirs. They represent determination, focus, and self-expression. They also symbolize persistence, strong-will and confidence. The badger’s totem meaning is to focus on your goals and to have faith in your abilities. Having this animal as your patronus means you are know what you want and are not afraid to go for it. You know your priorities and what you need to do for yourself and your family. You are independent and would rather help others than need them to help you. You are comfortable with who you are and in your beliefs. You don’t need others approval or validation and put more value to self worth. You may have trouble with listening to others and can be a bit stubborn, but you never give up and work for your goals. This is a useful and important characteristic for your future success and the achievement of your goals. This patronus will help you when you are doubtful of your abilities. It will remind you that you are capable and can do anything you set your mind to.

6. Basset Hound
Those with the Basset Hound as a Patronus are usually very smart and do well in their hobbies and academics. They thrive on a well thought out work schedule. Bassett Hound people are notoriously stubborn. Which can be a good thing because they will stand behind their belief or friends no matter what. Though sometimes their hard head is difficult to sway even if the facts point to the other direction. They can be extremely loyal to their friends, will do anything for them and they tend to be prepared to go above and beyond to help them. They're defined by their loyalty and determination to do what is right. No matter the consequences Bassett Hound people will do the right thing, even if it meant to leave their friends behind. A Bassett Hound as a Patronus is great. These people love having fun, have good humor and are as kind as they are stubborn.

7. Bat (unusual)
The bat is considered an unusual patronus to have by Pottermore, and that seems to be the case outside it as well. Few take to the bat, and the bat takes to few people in turn. Bats tend to gravitate strongly to their own sort, and are very social within their circles. They are often misunderstood or even feared by others, but this is rarely warranted. They are sensitive individuals with excellent intuition and a keen knack for divining what is really happening. Bats are seekers of truth, and will attempt to adhere to honesty in all things, at all times. They will not take anything by half. Steeped in mythology regarding visions and dreams, those who live with the bat as their patronus may have found themselves being called upon by others for guidance or to see the heart of a matter. You know who you are, but most people in your mind don’t deserve to know that. It’s perfectly all right if people have to keep guessing with you. This guardian will come to your aid when you are your lowest to remind you that you will always be one step ahead of whomever you’re facing, because only you know what you are capable of. It will fly out of your wand right at your enemy, blinding it and confusing it, before swooping back to your side to help you rise to your feet again.

8. Bay Mare/Stallion
The horse in general is representative of power, freedom, and nobility of spirit. People with a horse patronus likely value their freedom and want to live life in their own ways without being controlled by another. They tend to be excellent companions, and passionate individuals that refuse to be tied down by things that chafe their nature. Mares are associated with a gentleness and a connection to the spiritual, while stallions are associated with spiritedness and the physical world. Bay horses in particular mean steady progress and a reliable, well-balanced person that is well on their way to something good. Having a Bay Stallion (or Mare) as your Patronus means you find comfort in fortitude. True to your house, you are a determined, driven person. You chase your goals passionately, and nothing brings you more joy than achieving victory after a lot of hard work. You aren’t the sort to take the easy way out – part of what makes a victory meaningful to you is how many hurdles you had to surmount to get there, and if it’s easy, then it cheapens the result. Fortunately you are more than resourceful, proud, and strong enough to plow through difficult times. Should you ever find yourself chained up by manacles of despair that drain your resolve, this Patronus will come to your rescue. It will charge out of your wand like a force of nature, galloping toward your enemy with enough ferocity to make it shrink back, before plowing back over to your side, chomping down on your bonds and shattering them with its teeth. It will bump its nose beside your cheek, telling you to get up – how in the world can you let something this pathetic take you down? And although the tone will be slightly gruff, it’ll be just the push you need – your pride will recover and you will lift your head up high, your eyes blazing with just as much passion and vigor as your Patronus’s.

9. Beagle
Those with a beagle are inquisitive, focused, free spirits that enjoy being part of a tight group, yet still manage to be themselves. They may adhere to the rules of another for a time, but if they don’t like the situation then that likely won’t last long. Beagles just have to be themselves and there’s no one out there that can stop them permanently. Beagle people are enthusiastic about their hobbies and can be quite exciteable when the situation calls, but may have a tendancy of taking on more than they can deal with. While they can be wary of strangers, they will gladly do anything for someone they care about if it means making them happy. Like all dogs, they tend to be very kind, friendly, and loyal to those they love. You are a very charismatic and caring person, but the people who know that best are the people you love. You show a great sense of charity and selflessness and you find comfort in bringing happiness to others.ou may be a little protective of your family, but you’re not really possessive – you just want to make sure that they achieve happiness just as much as you do. When you lose your way in the darkness of despair, this Patronus will leap to your rescue, a friend in need in any kind of weather. It will bark encouragingly at you as it bounds around your legs, and despite yourself you’ll smile at the sight. It will bring back joy to you, and so you will be ready to fight back against the darkness with a huge, confident smile on your face.

10. Black and White Cat
They embody the dichotomy of existence, being revered as divine in some places, but looked upon with suspicion of evil in others. Cats are aloof, yet affectionate. Distant, yet loyal. Skilled hunters, but nuturing companions. Most are quite clever, if not outright intelligent, and a cat person having a good sense of guile or wit is not uncommon. Black and white cats in particular hit on the “guardian” aspect of their animal, having better luck in general avoiding or weathering bad things, as well as likely having something good in their future to look forward to. They tend to be well-balanced individuals with a good sense of duty and a tendency to be creative and look outside the box.Having a black and white cat as your Patronus means you find comfort in balance. Appropriate to your house, you have no fear of the darkness – you appreciate the mysterious and the unknown and love reveling in it. At the same time, though, you also can appreciate the other side and enjoy the simplicity and morality of light. You likely are a Neutral sort, whether you are Lawful Neutral enough to color in the lines or Chaotic Neutral enough to just not care what people think of you. Regardless you make your choices with a lot of inner-thought and deliberation, patiently biding your time for your best opportunities and listening to all the options before making up your mind. This also makes you incredibly flexible and open to new points of view. Should you ever find yourself trapped in a cage of despair and hopelessness, this Patronus will come for you, bringing light where there is dark and deepening shadows where there is relentless light. It will make your vision clear again and help you reestablish your footing so that you can leap back to your feet and take down your adversary.

11. Black Bear (unusual)
The bear is a patronus of great might, generally aligning with those of great confidence and power. Bear people enjoy their alone time and can contentedly spend a great deal of time in reflection and contemplation. Despite this, they often do excellently in leadership roles, whether they seek such positions or not. Bears are stable people with grounded personalities and an impressive reserve of inner strength. It’s not unusual for a bear to share this trait to help others grow and heal in difficult times. Though balanced, bears also have a tinge of the spontaneous about them, and they frequently surprise people with things that may be difficult to predict. Black bears in particular tend to be quite clever and resourceful, and often enjoy a healthy challenge getting what they’re after. Bears in general are associated with strength and courage. Unlike their cousins the brown bears, American black bears are not very social creatures and can be quite territorial, though when they do congregate with their own kind, they often develop a strict hierarchy with the strongest males leading the group. Having a Black Bear as your Patronus means you find comfort in inner-strength. Appropriate to your house, you are an individualistic person, and you are very grounded in who you are. You may not be the biggest fish in the pond or have the most friends, but you have a big personality. Your heart beats like a drum and you follow it at your own rhythm. You can also be very protective of your own interests – not just your ambitions, but also your friends’ and family’s well-being – and can bite back hard when you’ve been slighted. Should you ever come under threat, this Patronus will come to protect you, teeth bared, and stand before you like a shield. And God help anything that tries to broach it.

12. Black Mamba
Snakes are symbolic of change, energy, healing, fertility, and the duality of good and evil. Having a Black Mamba as your Patronus means you find comfort in being ahead. You are a chess-master of sorts, able to manipulate people and circumstances the way you want, and you are very confident when you know you have control over a situation. Now this can sound rather nasty on the face of things, but you liking control also means you are a very responsible person. You like to fix problems and heal divides. You also have a perfectionist streak, which makes you pursue your ambitions with gusto. When the fires of doom are flickering in your eyes and the end seems near, this Patronus will sweep from your wand in a flash of white, silently coming up beside your opponent and then striking, its inky mouth wide and its fangs bared. And as it takes down the threat, you’ll have the time you need to collect yourself. The upper hand will be yours once again, and you will win. Snakes are powerful symbols, and those whose patronus takes the form of a serpent tend to also be powerful people in kind. The black mamba is unique in that it only forms for those who show a special kind of mind. Though gentle friends and purveyors of entertainments of the mental sort, black mambas are cunning, patient individuals that can hold onto grudges for a very long time if wronged. While they tend to be quiet, sometimes even shy, and not be wont to impose, it doesn’t meant that they can’t get things done. When applied correctly, a black mamba has the potential to a master planner, calculating and observant, willing to stay close to even their rivals if it means achieving what they’re trying to do.

13. Black Mare/Stallion
Horses are powerful free spirits thats refuse to be tied down by others for long. They tend to be passionate people that make excellent friends with lots of energy that fuels others’ enthusiasm and creativity. Mares are associated with a gentleness and a connection to the spiritual, while stallions are associated with spiritedness and the physical world. Black horses are quite independent and mysterious with a certain allure to them. They are more likely to march to the beat of their own drum than other horse types and tend to be very individualistic and strong of conviction, willing to bend to certain things for others but rarely making compromises on who and what they are, as if saying, “I am simply me.” The Black Horse is both death defying and death seeking, and is symbolic of both death and rebirth. It signifies the closing of one door and the opening of another. It can also signify the need for you to take a leap of faith and trust what you are being guided to do even if you can’t see the reason or the result. Having a black horse as your patronus means you find comfort in the unknown. Death doesn’t scare you, and for you, as Dumbledore said, it is simply the next big adventure. You aren’t afraid of what you don’t know, in other words. You are a curious individual, who loves to discover new things. Things we don’t know much about like space and the deepest parts of the ocean not only intrigue you but also bring you a sort of comfort. For you, the fact that there are so many unknowns out there is encouraging because you think it’s important to always be in wonder of the complexity around you. It is in this complexity and wonder, that you find the beauty and meaning of life. The fact that we don’t know everything is a good thing to you, and you like knowing that there will always be more to discover and wonder at. Despite this, you do like to figure things out and understand the why behind them. You are highly curious and this complements your wonder at everything well because you understand that there is both beauty in the unknown and value in understanding it. This makes you someone who is pleasant to be around, because no matter what, you always seem to appreciate what’s around you. This sense of wonder at everything often rubs off on others and puts them in a better mood because who can be angry when “The human body is so complex and amazing… its a scientific wonder that you’re even alive right now!” Such statements really do help put things in perspective for you and others, and help confirm that you are definitely someone who sees the big picture of it all. Alot of people don’t see the world the way you do and sometimes this can make it hard for them to understand where you’re coming from, but overall they appreciate having someone make them look at things differently. In moments when you feel misunderstood, don’t worry, your patronus will be there to remind you of all the unknowns of the world, and bring you back that sense of wonder and beauty that keeps you strong.

14. Black Swan
Those with a swan are likely very loyal people, sticking to those important in their life through thick and thin, and protecting them in any way they can. Black swans sometimes have negative connotations, but it doesn’t have to be thus. They are very loving people but can take a while to open up, meaning not everyone gets to see this side of their personality which can lead to false impressions. They tend to have a cool passion about them, leading them to pursue their goals and interests with a sort of natural furor, compared to the more calm pursuits of their white counterparts. It’s not uncommon for someone with a black swan to be “blunt”, giving and taking criticism with honesty and grace, but not afraid to tell things like they are. On the whole, they are quite deep, steadfast people with a desire to improve at the things they love. While swans have a graceful and gorgeous appearance, they are not to be taken lightly. These creatures are fierce, but elegant; they are strong, but beautiful. Swans are typically seen as symbols of grace and of love, but anyone who has come in contact with a swan knows they can be very protective of themselves and their families. If your patronus is a black swan, you find a sense of comfort in the face of underestimation. That’s not to say you enjoy being underestimated, but that you are full of surprises. When someone believes you cannot do something, you prove that you can by doing it far better than they ever could. You are never one to start the debate (or the fight) but you are never afraid to finish it either. You never fear a challenge and know within yourself that you will always overcome adversity, no matter what the world believes or how the world sees you.

15. Blackbird
Having a Blackbird as your Patronus means you find comfort in insight. You are an incredibly perceptive person who does not fear the dark or mysteriousness and sees right through most deception with cool reason. Your great insight serves you well when you need to protect yourself and others – true to Slytherin house, you value your own and your family’s preservation. You can easily weed out the untrustworthy and call out those who could mean others harm. Should you ever be blinded and thrown backward in an endless, dizzying spiral of confusion, you needn’t ever fear. Your Patronus will fly out of your wand, swirling around you and slashing through the dementors’ gloom with its talons. Your vision will clear, and your reason will return. And once you can think clearly again, you can beat back your fears and take the reins of control away from them once and for all. The blackbird is the epitome of higher thought and ideals. It’s quite common for those with a blackbird patronus to be intellectual and incredibly deep thinkers, pondering over complex things and delighting in mental enlightenment. They’re sometimes seen as mysterious and detached from the world, as they are so often lost in the depths of their own heads. Blackbirds strive to better themselves in a myriad of ways, and most have amazing potential, whether apparent or initially hidden. It’s not uncommon for a blackbird to casually devour information on anything they come across, and some even treat it as a hobby. Despite the “dark” color, blackbirds are very “bright” and love to collect information on the world around them and beyond.

16. Bloodhound
Those with the Bloodhound as a Patronus are usually very smart and do well in their hobbies and academics. They thrive on a well thought out work schedule. Those with this Patronus are notoriously stubborn, which can be a good thing because they will stand behind their belief or friends no matter what. Though sometimes their hard head is difficult to sway even if the facts point to the other direction.Their devotion separates into two ways: they can be extremely loyal to their friends, will do anything for them and they tend to be prepared to go above and beyond to help them. The other side is their loyalty and determination to do what is right. No matter the consequences, people with the Bloodhound Patronus will do the right thing, even if it meant to leave their friends behind. Those with the bloodhound patronus tend to be gentle, easy-going people with a talent for finding what they want and getting things done. It is difficult to dissuade a bloodhound from doing something they want to do, and they generally dislike leaving things unfinished. Bloodhounds tend to be quite patient and tenacious, and are often willing to work for a long time at something to achieve what they want. It’s not uncommon to see a bloodhound person slowly chipping away at some project or problem with a calm satisfaction where other, more impatient people would have long given up in frustration. Though a side effect is that the person may need a reminder to stop to eat or do other things now and then. Like all dogs, they are kind, friendly, and loyal to those they love, sticking with their chosen people through thick and thin.

17. Borzoi
That those who take the form of dogs tend to be friendly and loyal is no secret. The borzoi dog usually marks someone who is also easy-going, often quiet, and possessed of a good sense of humor. They have active, intelligent minds and are experts at amusing themselves, being content alone or with others. Rare is the borzoi that can manage to keep themselves bored for long. The tendency to find humor in almost anything is also common in borzois, from the mundane to the macabre. Though, naturally, the range depends on the individual. The humor comes with a helping of class and, when applied properly, they are quite eloquent people that can navigate difficulties in life with easy grace. You are a versatile person, laid back, okay with hanging around the house or going on an adventure, whatever mood strikes you. That being said you can’t take too much of one thing at a time. You need a chance to run around and be crazy, then recover and relax. You get along with lots of different people because of your go-with-the-flow attitude, but are just fine with being with yourself and doing your own thing. You have a fancy side, proudly showing off your best features. You know your own worth and have no trouble reminding others of that. While you are laid back, you still put your goals first and might put too much pressure on yourself. Your patronus will remind you, when you are stressed and lost, not knowing what to do, to calm down, breathe and know how capable you are. You will be able to collect your thoughts and continue to succeed at what you do.

18. Brown Bear
The bear is indicative of someone with a great reserve of patience and inner strength. Bears do often well in leadership roles, though are more than content alone, happily spending their time in reflection and contemplation. They are confident, stable people that others may gravitate to in trying times for stability and healing. Though their quiet nature and tendency to spend time away from the crowd can lead to others thinking they are stern or anti-social, bears are often friendly and curious, and can surprise even those that know them best with something they didn’t think of. Brown bears are known to be the “warriors” of the bear archetype, standing their ground and facing danger to protect others or do what they believe is right, not backing down no matter the danger. Bears are associated primarily with strength and courage. Having a Brown Bear as your Patronus means that you find comfort in size. You have a large personality and you have no trouble taking over the room when you so choose. Being a big fish in the small pond gives you both the attention you enjoy as well as the distance that you sometimes need, and you always have a choice if you want one more than the other at a particular moment. Should you ever feel small and insignificant compared to the overwhelming, all-encompassing night, your Patronus will roar out of your wand and shield you with its body as if you were its own cub. No demon or fear would be able to touch you with this guardian protecting you.

19. Brown Hare
The swift hare is very commonly associated with haste, fertility/rebirth, change, and life. People who partner with the hare are diligent, efficient individuals. They tend to be quite ambitious and, while sometimes impatient, manage to also often have an excellent sense of timing. People of the hare tend to have lives full of change, whether they cause it or not, and so have had to learn to quickly adapt at paces that may leave the heads of others spinning. They are very sensitive to their surroundings and things happening in their lives and can be much quicker than others to act as a result. Hares and rabbits are symbolic of fertility and spring, largely thanks to their well-documented ability to multiply. They have also sometimes been associated with rebirth. Having a brown hare as your Patronus means you find comfort in asserting yourself. You are a quiet person by nature and have little interest in chasing the spotlight. you are unassuming and your ambitions are not grandiose in scale. But underneath this quiet exterior, you are tough as nails. Your goals may not be earth-shattering, but they are yours, and you will chase them with speed and precision. People might try to hunt you down and make you conform to their expectations, but they are fools to even try, for you are more than fast and determined enough to leave them in your dust. Should you ever find yourself hunted down by the shadows and monsters of the night, this Patronus will hop out of your wand, bouncing around you quick as lightning and landing its back paws into the face of your enemy. No way is anything going to come in ten feet of you! Its confidence in this will embolden you, and soon you’ll be ready to kick back just as hard.

20. Brown Owl (unusual)
Brown Owl’s are an incredibly intelligent and protective animal. So as a patronus it can represent an owner who is just that. Other than protective and intelligent, this patronus can represent an owner who is very wise, sociable and is very good leader and is always willing to lead, as long as the people who they are leading want them as a leader. The owner finds intense comfort in leading and protecting others. They also find comfort in the wisdom of others. This patronus represents a person who is incredibly intelligent and wise, but they use these attributes to their advantage. This also means that when the owner of this patronus thinks of a new and creative idea, they will stand by it, and prove that it is a great idea. Owls are very important in the wizarding world. Acting as pets, companions, and messengers, very few could get through their day without the ever-present owl post. Naturally, it’s also a very nice Patronus to have. The quick-witted owl people are visionaries and guardians, looking to protect things they think are important and seeing beyond first impressions. They are bright and intelligent, and often wise beyond their years. This, of course, doesn’t just apply to schoolwork; many owls look beyond the mundane and positively excel in their own chosen fields or areas of interest when they apply themselves to them. Brown owls in particular are extremely loyal and protective, sticking by those they love and not letting anything ever harm them, yet never letting themselves get taken for granted. They are also fiercely independent and tend to carefully pick who they spend their valuable time with. A person with a brown owl Patronus is a lucky friend to have. Having a Brown Owl as your Patronus means that you find comfort in your belongings. You are a slightly possessive person, who finds contentment in material possessions and strong friendships. Your materialism, however, is not greedy – you make a lot of emotional connections with your home and personal belongings, holding onto mementos of good times and heirlooms from generations past. You hold onto things not because they are valuable to the world at large, but because they’re valuable to you. Your needs, however, are not grandiose – you are still wise enough to prune what must be pruned and only keep the things that matter most, as well as maintain and care for those things. You also do the same with the few who earn your friendship. You care for them and protect them with all of your heart. Sometimes you have trouble sharing the people and things you love with others. Should you ever feel the constricting hands of despair clutching at your throat, this Patronus will soar to your rescue. It will envelop you in the warmth and comfort of home. It will encompass you like a cocoon and bring the smile back to your face, before you are ready to face your enemy and bring about the death foretold to it by your guardian’s arrival.

21. Buffalo (unusual)
Few possess just the right strength of character for their patronus to take the form of a buffalo. Those that do are dedicated individuals who are fiercely protective of those close to them, and not in a general way, either. Anyone foolish enough to attempt to harm another under a buffalo’s care is unlikely to come out unscathed. They are fighters, and it’s not uncommon for a buffalo to have their own personal code or way of acting to which normal morality simply doesn’t apply, which can be dangerous even for the buffalo. When all is well, they are placid but often outgoing, with strong personalities and who like having fun with those they bond to. However, going too long without contact with friends or family can lead to a buffalo feeling anxious or sad, and they will usually be at their best when sharing time with others. They are steadfast friends that enjoy being helpful and lending a hand to complete a task, or just making someone feel better. The buffalo is full of many feelings, the strong stature of them showing through a person in this way. They try to appear stoic, but it often backfires and they wear their hearts on their sleeves. They are passionate about everything they do and headstrong. They make sure their opinions are known by all that they concern, because they want to show that they are not weak. They feel as though their emotion and lack of control over it does in a way give them weakness, and it angers them greatly. They have strong tempers that are easy to lose.

22. Buzzard
Known for their keen powers of intuition and observation, buzzard people are very perceptive and can see what others miss. Whether it be a small detail, something with the entire whole, or sometimes both, buzzards not only have the ability to pick up on important things, but can also often quickly deal with any issue they have managed to spot. They are very focused and honest people, and generally prefer to see things as they are or could be, not what they/others wish to see. Often intense and rarely dull, buzzards manage to stand out simply by the vast range of people it can find itself with. Having a buzzard as your patronus means that you likely find strength and/or comfort in solitude. You like to spend time alone instead of trying to navigate large groups and crowds. Alone, you are able to read, listen to music, draw, or whatever other fun activity you enjoy. For you, solitude is a time to recharge and breathe. It’s important to remember that solitude does not equal loneliness. Being lonely is not a choice, solitude, choosing to spend time by yourself, is. Accordingly, enjoying time alone does not mean that you have no friends. Quite the opposite! As any Hufflepuff does, you likely have quite a few friends, you just find that you can enjoy their company and contributions more if you’re only with a few at a time and not a whole group. Despite the way you might try to avoid larger groups, crowds, or bigger enemies, there might be times where they are unavoidable. That is why your patronus is here. When your enemies begin to crowd you from all sides, your patronus will shoot from your wand and help you hold them off. The buzzard will make sure that no enemy, no dementor, can get too close. And, like the true harbinger of death that it is, it will help you fight through to see the sun rising and the end of the battle.

23. Calico Cat
The cat is the watchful guardian of the patronus world, and embodies the dichotomy of things, often managing to be two opposing things at once. Fickle but somehow also loyal, they tend to be quite clever and alert individuals who know when to move and when to take it easy, and as such have excellent patience when it suits them. They may seem laid back, but do not forget that the cat is a hunter. Calicos are hailed as extremely observant, lucky cats, and those with a calico may have an uncanny ability to make things happen or to affect outcomes to make them more favorable. Whether or not they actually move to do so depends on the person. Calicos can be quite rare as far as cats go, but tend to be affectionate, “sweet”-natured people who bond well with others but still manage to maintain their independence. A calico patronus can also represent an owner who is extremely eccentric and doesn’t like being like being like everyone else. You, yourself, are an unpredictable person. People never know what to expect from you because at any given moment your opinions or look might change. You are very open to change and like to keep people guessing. You are also very multi talented, and your interests can range from science nerd to basketball guru, and beyond. You often change your mind often about what you want to do because practically everything can be appealing to you, depending on the day. This spontaneous nature makes you someone who is willing to take chances and strive for the very best of whatever you choose to do. They often look at the big picture rather than the small details, and focus on this in everything they do. Those who are tedious test their patience and annoy them greatly. They are always looking to have a good time or jump into the next activity of their choosing. More than anything, cheetahs are associated with speed, which makes sense as they are the fastest land-based animal in the world. Behaviorally cheetahs are special among big cats for being diurnal (hunting and such during the day). Male cheetahs tend to be very sociable, whereas females tend to be solitary, and generally only male cheetahs tend to act territorial. In ancient times, cheetahs were tamed by humans, likely thanks in large part to the animal’s social nature, and were used for hunting by kings and queens. Because of this they also acquired the symbolism of royalty and elegance. Having a cheetah as your Patronus means you find comfort in prowess. You know your strengths and talents and use them to get ahead of your competition. You are able to broadcast a great amount of confidence and sociability, to the extent that people may describe you as friendly, but anyone who underestimates you will be very sorry indeed. Should you ever find yourself sinking in quicksand-like doubt, this Patronus will appear out of your wand like a flash, dashing around your opponent with ease and throwing it off its guard. It will then race around you so fast that, for a moment, all anyone will see is a circle of blazing white mist. That mist will be warm and comforting, and you’ll get back to your feet as your Patronus finally stops beside you, leering at your opponent. Now you two can combine your power and take down this threat together.

They don’t usually bond too well with just anyone and tend to be aloof around those they do not yet know well. Chows may also chafe under authority if those in charge do not suit their taste or if they think the person in charge doesn’t seem to be a good leader. As such, they can be very stubborn and strong-willed in the face of anything from a small argument to some great danger. Despite your need for alone time you don’t mind being with these people you value, although you still can seem aloof even with them. You love them to death and would protect them at any cost. You are often suspicious of strangers and slow to open up. You generally keep to yourself and mind your own business. One of the main reasons you like your space though, is because you need it to think, something you do quite alot of. You are highly intelligent and strong in your opinions and sometimes that can make it hard for you to mix with others, although you have good intentions. Your work ethic, determination, and independence however, make you a very admirable person and someone with alot of potential to succeed. Always remember, in moments when you feel shouted over and stressed, your patronus will be there to bring you back the solitude and independence you so highly value, by banishing your foes!

Crows are often confused for ravens and generally are associated with much of the same symbolism (i.e. magic, the supernatural, precognition), but socially the two species could not be more different. Ravens are known as solitary birds, but crows are social, adaptable creatures who are opportunistic enough that they will eat anything and everything. There is also a fun myth centering around crows and the god Apollo, where the god tasked some of the birds – at that time a white color – to stand watch over his pregnant mortal lover. When the crows brought Apollo poor tidings, the god changed their feathers black in mourning…and thus crows are also considered sentinels. The crow is a very well-known bird that some believe is an omen of dark magic. But if this is your Patronus, don't fret! The crow is very resourceful, ambitious, and cunning. Once they set a goal, they always seem to get what they're after. Crows are also fearless. Having a Crow as your Patronus means you find comfort in opportunity. You have a keen eye and a sharp mind, and you are very good at sniffing out trouble and at determining which friends are keepers and which ones aren’t. You actually really like being around people and thrive in social situations. 30. Doe (unusual)
Deer are peaceful creatures, often associated with vigilance and gentility. Having a Doe as your Patronus means you find comfort in grace – not the kind one would find in a dancer, but the kind you find in someone truly noble. You are someone with an almost royal bearing. It is hard to provoke you, because you simply hold yourself too high to resort to jumping into petty fights or stupidly getting into trouble. Like Lily Evans, you are the sort of person who, upon being insulted, takes the high road in your response, rather than immediately whipping out your wand in an attempt to retaliate. Your sense of honor and chivalry is also very well-suited to your house. Your guardian will appear to you when things are at their very bleakest, stepping out of nothingness with silent poise, and its very presence will make you straighten up that little bit more and hold your head up high as you again turn to face the pitch black. The doe is a soft and innocent patronus to have, and those with it reflect this greatly. They have a comforting, almost maternal way about them, and it can draw many to them, and this can cause them to have many friends and admirers. Having a dolphin means that you are motivated by kindness and making sure others are okay before looking after yourself, which while some would see as a weakness, the dolphin appreciates it, and would look after you in return. Dolphins also like to play and have fun, and as while you like to work, you also have to relax and fun too! Your patronus would absolutely leap to your rescue, should anything attack you, and if you were somehow unable to fight for yourself, it would make sure nothing bad would happen to you, and it would do its best to support you until you are ready to get back into the fight, like they do for their families. You find great joy and pride in helping the ones you love and, to a lesser extent, others. You are very people-oriented and like being in social situations. This trait is very beneficial in helping you chase your dreams, as it means you’re quick to make new allies and friends. 32. Dragon (very rare)
Dragons are strong in their convictions and will stand for what they believe is right. Those with a dragon for a Patronus are sure to be fierce fighters, and the Dementors better be ready for a challenge! Typically you can be found hiding away and protecting what ever you value above all else. Protect you shall with all the courage you posses. You never back back down once fully engaged in a fight until either you or the enemy is defeated. In regards to raw power, lets just say you have some to spare. The dragon represents an inner element, one that is prominent in peoples with this patronus. The element can vary, but quite often it is fire. There is a strong passion and ambition in this person, and a fury like no other. This does not mean they are an angry person, though they do have a tendency to be temperamental, but merely that they have a drive that fuels them throughout their whole self. They can be impulsive, but luckily this is combined with good instinct and reaction, so they don’t find themselves regretting their choices very often. They tend to encase their emotions within themselves, and in that way can seem very cold and blunt.

33. Dragonfly
Having a dragonfly as your patronus means you find comfort in being agile and always on the move. You need to keep busy, else you feel like life is flying by you, and you like to know you’re using every moment to the fullest. It’s why you have no patience for slow walkers, people who stop suddenly in your path, or even people who can’t keep up. Your schedule is always full, of places to be, people to see and things to do. The dragonfly will guide you, making sure you do stop in between, like relaxing on the bus on the way to meet your friends, or getting a good nights sleep, and enjoying the next episode of that TV show you adore. Keep busy, but make sure you also find time for yourself. While first appearing numerous and predictable, the dragonfly is fiercly independent and unique. They tend to become bored easily, and because of that they make friends with people who are their stark opposites. You may think that this makes them lead an unpleasant life, but they carry a sense of maturity and get along quite well with those around them, regardless of differing opinions.

34. Dun Mare/Stallion
Horses in general are symbolic of freedom, adventure, and victory. “Dun” is a term used for a certain shade of horses that mixes red and black pigments, resulting in darker faces and legs. The coloring gives the breed an association with wild horses, as many cave drawings depicting wild horses tend to use “dun-like” colors, and therefore dun horses are symbolic of prehistory and being untamed. Having a Dun Stallion (or Mare) as your Patronus means you find comfort in living on the wild side. You are not someone to take direction from anyone else – you have a lively and independent spirit and you go wherever the wind takes you. Unlike some of your Slytherin classmates, you can be a bit of a risk-taker, if it will help you get what you want. Like your classmates, however, this independent streak also makes you slow to trust – it takes you a while for someone to earn your respect and trust, since you are not one to share your time with just anyone. Should you find yourself trapped in chains of depression and sorrow, struggling to get free, this Patronus will come for you. It will bound out of your wand, clopping around you and stamping its hooves on the ground. All at once, those chains will shatter like glass, and you will be free once more to fight back…and your Patronus will be the perfect steed to carry you to victory!
