A year below me
Chapter 1
We had finally finished our second-year exams and some of us girls were celebrating in the dormitory. I couldn’t get to sleep so I went to my usual place on the sofa. I could not believe my eyes when I walked into the common room to find first-year Neville Longbottom lying on the floor as stiff as anything. Either someone had performed the full body bind on him or one of his own had backfired on him. I felt so sorry for him, things always ended up happening to Neville. We had recently learnt about curse breaking but I didn’t feel confident enough to perform it on a friend.
I ran through a passageway I knew to my uncle’s study and told him what had happened to Neville. He came straight away and freed poor Neville, who managed to tell him, and by this time Professor McGonagall, what had happened. He told them how Harry, Ron and Hermione were breaking the rules again, that they were going out and that he had tried to stop them but Hermione had performed the full body bind on him. I couldn’t believe it. An outstanding student from what I had heard but, it seems was willing to break the rules and perform a spell on her friend. Some friend, her and Harry had already been in trouble and lost us most of our points anyway.
He was taken to the hospital wing to be checked by Mme Pomfrey and I had a good talking to as to why I shouldn’t have been out of bed in the first place but it was a good thing that I had been. At the end of term feast my uncle was looking unusually relaxed. He hadn’t been like it all year but Slytherin were winning the cup with 472 points so he had a reason to be proud. Harry kept on being mentioned but I knew better than to mention it especially as there were talks of Voldemort going round thanks to Fred and George.
Cheers echoed around the Gryffindor table that year. Ron and Hermione were given 50 points each and Harry was given 60 points. The most important was for Neville because he had stood up to his friends, which as Dumbledore said took more courage. Neville was awarded 10 points and we won the House Cup. We were all so happy.
