Rowena Ravenclaw was a powerful Scottish witch and one of the four founders of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. Rowena was born sometime in the tenth century. she was from the glands of Scotland and was either born or married into the Ravenclaw family. She was most likely married into the family as she had a daughter. Also due to the fact that a women was expected to take her husband's name. She was a good friend of a fellow witch named Helga Hufflepuff another very powerful witch form the welsh valleys. Ravenclaw required a wand sometime in her early years but due to there being no age limit for magical children to begin practising magic, it's unclear precisely at what age she acquired her wand. It is also possible she purchased it from the Ollivander family who had been making business since 382 BC or made it herself due to her immense skill. Rowena and Helga had been friends for some time before meeting Salazar Slytherin and Godric Gryffindor. They soon realised, together they had the skill, knowledge and ability to create a Magical school. They named it Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. Ravenclaw selected her students according to intelligence and wisdom. Rowena's house therefore values a sharp mind, wisdom, creativity and cleverness in its members. At some point Rowena had a daughter, Helena Ravenclaw. After her daughter graduated Helena was jealous of her mother so she stole her Diadem. Then Rowena became fatefully ill and she sent the baron - who loved her daughter - to go find Helena. When Helena refused to go the Baron stabbed her, The with tremendous guilt he took his life. He would later become the Bloody Baron. Rowena then died. She was the first of the Founders to die. Albus Dumbledore described Ravenclaw as Clever and Wise. Rowena chose Blue and Silver to represent her house banner. She chose an Eagle to be the symbol for her house.
