Chapter 1
My first Christmas present came from Hagrid, it was a big pair of socks. I felt bad because I hadn’t actually got him anything. We didn’t celebrate Christmas. We would participate in the Christmas Feast, which my uncle hated, but our time of year is Midwinter. In general, we don’t give presents to our loved ones but in-keeping with the muggle traditions we have adapted. My uncle never wanted me to go without so he started our own tradition of making a present for me to open. This is THE most exciting part of the day because you don’t know when you can open it. The best way to describe it is a puzzle box. You don’t know when it will open or even IF it will open. You don’t know what it contains. All you know is that it needs lunar magic (the moon) to open. They started of being very simple and as the years progressed, they would get trickier and complicated to open. I once gave Hermione an incredibly tricky one. It was brilliant. The fun was also working out how to make them. I would give them to my friends and to their parents as well when I got to know them. Each one would come with general instructions with what they should do. I used to say, if uncertain, just leave it out in the moonlight. They would often contain a riddle as well.
My usual Christmas would be spent with Hagrid. When I was living in the dungeons, I would spend Christmas with my uncle and I was even allowed to sit with the teachers and sit on their table. It was fabulous. I often looked out and wondered what it would be like to sit at one of those tables. When I was a Hogwarts student, I spent my whole time there. I would sit at the Gryffindor table and hope that someone was going to be staying over the holidays. There was always someone, luckily for me Harry was always there. It was only my first year that he wasn’t there. Massive bonus, he was in Gryffindor too so we always knew we had someone to talk to, even if we weren’t great friends.
