Knowing Potter

Chapter 3
The year Harry joined I was in my second year, so we didn’t have any classes together but I was trying really hard to make friends with people in the way that my Uncle and Dumbledore wanted me to. I heard about many things that went on in potions class too. Everyone complains about the points Gryffindor lost in Potions class but Professor Snape did actually add some in my class, an element people often forget. I saw Potter at meal times, if I was there, he stayed over Christmas so I saw a lot of him then but so did the Weasleys so I spent most of my time with Fred and George. Harry had been but on the Quidditch team, some say he was getting special treatment. The Slytherins were not happy about it I know that much. I would go and cheer him on along with my other friends. I can’t say that I was the best of friends with Harry but we did share some good times together and had many friends in common. Over the years we would be at the Burrow at the same time, or I was told by Professor Dumbledore to “look out for him” I didn’t want to but I did.

I spent ages with Sirius when I was at the Black family house and he was his godfather. He inherited everything from him. He told me what had really happened the night that Cedric died and I think that it brought me some closure to the whole situation. Maybe it helped Harry to speak about it to someone and know he was helping, I don’t know.

There were also certain occasions when I was told to keep away from him. We were never the best of friends so I didn’t find it hard but we had so much in common it was hard to keep away from him. That’s what the wizarding world is like to a certain extent. No matter who you are you will always have a close tie to everyone. I used to try and slip away, forget that I had any connection with him, but it was impossible. The most notable time I was told to keep away was when Draco and I were working together in my 7th year. Professor Snape wanted me nowhere near Harry Potter for fear that if the Voldemort read someone’s mind we would be in great trouble. Instead I had to make friends with Draco Malfoy. I wasn’t amused but they didn’t make me into a Slytherin so that was ok.
Since school our relationship hasn’t changed that much. I see him for work and family occasions, and that is about it.
