Chapter 4
The telescope's reach was far and exact, reaching millions of miles. I can't fully understand, nor explain what it was, but I felt a churning mixture of love, fear and respect for this thing. It was this grand sphere, no imperfections on its smooth surface, simply perfectly contained matter. However, this sphere was no a solid but rather a spherical collection of strange gases. Inside its awe inspiring gases were colors incomprehensible to my mind. The closest colors I could relate these to are dark storms of pinks, lavender, and white, with hints of gray, but that's just barely what they were. It was like a new part if my mind was discovered, a section that had been covered by other useless information. And then, I could understand it all. I was watching this Cosmic Eye and it was watching me.

Suddenly, flashes of unbearable light beamed out of the Cosmic Eye, and scratching growling words entered his mind in an instant. Had I bot uncovered the new part of my mind, I don't think I would have understood it, but I could listen to this strange language with ease and comfort. Its booming voice called out, "YOU MORTAL. I DIVINE. I GRANT YOU MY POWER. YOU ARE THE CHOSEN." Then, the light beams all directed straight at the telescope. They minimized and filtered into the telescope and erupted into my eye. Cold? No, I wasn't freezing. Hot? No, I didn't feel the slightest bit warm. However, I felt another feeling in my mind. So, the demonic winged snakes hissed "Rise, Chosen. We envy and thank you."

I was the Chosen. It all struck me. Harlan had seen the Cosmic Eye at NASA, but he hadn't had the mental power to comprehend it. That's why he went mad. But why did the Cosmic Eye choose me? Was I the only one to have that extra portion of brain? Perhaps I would never know. But I did know that the Cosmic Eye had bigger plans that he simply could not perform as a gaseous sphere in the sky. Maybe I was now its servant. Every so often I hear the Cosmic Eye's sounds in my brain. Sometimes, they are just warnings about upcoming dangers. Of course, there is the possibility that the Cosmic Eye needs my body to observe Earth at a closer level. Or maybe I don't want to know.

Suddenly, their tails turned into legs once more. Their wings shrunk back into their spines. The claws shrunk into their fingers, as the skin turned from slimy scales to flesh. They all smiled and joined in a circle. The eldest leader brimmed, as she shook my hand. However, as I looked around me, I saw things differently. Previously, I only saw things on surface level. Now, I see things deeper than appearance. I don't know if you'll understand, but I saw the appearance of humans, the mind, and the soul. For example, I saw the Cultists of the Cosmic Eyes on three levels. Their appearance was that of a human. Their souls were that of those same demon snake creatures. Their minds were in a shade of gray, the color that denotes neutrality.

I asked for a mirror, and one of the cultists gave me a shard of reflective glass. I looked at myself. The first level, appearance, was that of an average human, brown messy hair and blue eyes. The second level, soul, was that of a child's, small and smiling. And the third level, the mind, was the same, perfect, perceptive, grand, awesome, gaseous form of the Cosmic Eye. Suddenly, the rigid sharp of glass slipped in my hand. A bloody gash was left there, but instead of the usual wincing in pain, I stood there, waiting for the agony to come. It didn't. Then, the skin began to layer back onto my wound, leaving it cleansed, as if it never happened.

And I smiled. The Cultists all gathering around me, chanting their words, and soon, I was back. Back at my home. There was no grand warping or teleportation or anything like that. I took a breath, blinked, and I was in my bed. So, I thought. I simply thought. I looked at my phone. The date was October 12st. And I went to sleep. And there, at my side in the morning was Lassie. Perhaps as a way of the universe thanking me.
