The Sorting

Chapter 1
The sky was dark when I arrived at Hogwarts, only being able to see thanks to the lanterns me and my fellow first years were holding. It was the moment I'd been waiting for my entire life, yet for some reason, I was scared. As if something would happen. But I know it won't... right?

Luckily, that prediction was true. My sorting was fairly normal, apart from one kid tripping over on his way down. Poor him. As me, my parents and pretty much my entire family had predicted, I was sorted into Gryffindor. It wasn't like it was the norm in my family, I was just always different; I have a long family history in Ravenclaw, except for that one guy in 1939 who was sorted into Slytherin. But Mum says not to mention him as he went on to become a Death Eater and was promptly disowned. I don't see the problem though. I thought it would have been kind of cool to be in Slytherin, with the snake and green, which personally is my favourite colour. But anyways, I was sorted into Gryffindor, nonetheless, and was immediately greeted by two girls, one a few months older than me, one a few months less.

"My names Maya, and this is Katy," she said, gesturing to herself and then the petite blonde girl to her right.

"Nice to meet you both," I said, smiling. "I'm Elena," And for the rest of the evening, we chatted away about anything: music, shopping, the colour orange (which we all agreed was the absolute WORST). Katy even showed me this muggle thing called a 'phone'. It was surprising how far they'd advanced. How did I know? Because in 1974, my grandma married a muggle-born, who then showed her his 'phone'. But she always described it as a brick. This was a lot thinner. I guess the muggles can actually do stuff.
