Savannah slams the door shut as she bolts into her small bedroom. Why would her mom forbid her to see Mr. Eaton again? She’d made it very clear that she was not to step foot in that hospital again (unless, of course, there was an actual emergency). Savannah’s mom had always been strangely overprotective, as if protecting her from someone, but this just doesn’t make sense at all. She doesn’t know why she is so upset about this – after all, he is only a stranger – even though she had now met with him several times over the last week. Savannah has felt as if she’s had few true connections with people, and as if she had developed something special with Mr. Eaton. Tyler. She means Tyler. He had told her to call him by his first name from now on. Savannah knew there was something behind all of this, but she just couldn’t put her finger on it. She knows she is not going to give up this friendship over one of mom’s angry fits. Savannah hears her mom’s strained voice telling her to pick up the groceries she’d ordered. The corners of her mouth slyly curve up. Perfect.
