Chapter 5
When I finished at Hogwarts I was put into the most traumatic situations because I was given one of the limited spots available at the Ministry of Magic in the Auror apprenticeship scheme. With my uncle being the new Headmaster of Hogwarts and my father being around nobody thought that I got it on my own merit. I was able to pass messages to Arthur within the ministry and spent as much time as I could going back home, but much of the time I would get called to the Malfoys. It was more time apart, and I missed Fred’s jokes. I needed his crazy fun.
Lou, that’s what Fred & George always called me. Mostly for the toilet humor. Peeves started it and they carried it on. Louisa was the rest of the family and Percy would call me “the other snape” when he was being really annoying. When the rest of the family found out about my father along with the whole Order of the Phoenix, I got names like Dear and Sweety, from Molly.
We started the Battle of Hogwarts together, and I guess we ended it together. It was really important to me that I saw them before everything started. They were on the ramparts when I found them. I didn’t have to say anything, I was shaking so much, I was so glad I had found them. I remember taking Fred and George by the hands. “Together?”, “Always Lou”.
They were there for me at what I can only describe as the lowest time in my life. They tried to stop me apparating but got taken with me, when I was going to the boat house, and it took both of them to hold me down and to stop me screaming when my uncle was killed. I was not able to do for Fred what he did for me. I was not able to save him. The first I found out about his death was at the end, right at the end. I stood at the entrance to the Great Hall and watched as grieving families tried to pick up the pieces of their broken hearts. I saw all the Weasley’s gathered in a group. All except Fred. I couldn’t handle it and I’m ashamed to say that I ran.
I was found looking rather lost and dishevelled by a muggle family who were on holiday in Devon in August. It turns out that even though I had been going from place to place I had ended up near Ottery-St-Catchpole the home of the Weasley’s. After looking after me they helped me find the Burrow. Apparently there had been all sorts of speculation, rumours of me with Death Eaters, being among the dead, ashamed to come back. The truth was I was in shock. Molly had said that I would turn up when I was good and ready and she was right. I walked up to the door and Molly opened it. She held me so tightly but it felt so right. Like I had come to the right place. I looked up and George stood looking at me. I think you could say that I more or less fell into his arms.
Arthur told me that I needed to sort a few things out to do with the death of my father and uncle with the Ministry of Magic and that he would help me. I wasn’t in any trouble as I was the sole heir of Severus Snape and a beneficiary of Tom Marvolo Riddle. Luckily, they didn’t ask too many questions and my father never made me a marked death eater. I don’t know what I would have done without Arthur’s help and also Percy because he really did help me with different matters that I had no idea about. I had great people around me.
The new family that I created around me was a Weasley one. Molly & Arthur, Ginny & Harry, Ron & Hermione, Bill & Fleur, Me, George, Percy and Charlie. They never assumed anything of me and always guided me. They say you cannot choose your family. Somehow I think the Weasley’s found me and I choose to be with them – Always.
