Chapter one: Quinn B. Jonthan
Chapter 1
My eyes fluttered open and I was instantly hit with a wave of pain. I looked down and saw an open wound just above my left thigh. It had dyed my blue jeans and off white t-shirt, dark red. I felt light headed but forced myself to stay conscious. A group of people crowded around me but one dark figure walked to the front. So my first thought was their leader, but when they came closer they seemed to be my age. I looked closer and made out their short curly brown hair and a light brown skin. I tilted my head and growled.
“What. Do. You. Want?” I asked as deep as possible. The figure just laughed and looked at me. They walked into the light of the moon and grinned “Hello,” It was my turn to laugh.
“Hello? That’s all you-,” A loud alarm system cut me off and to my surprise the mysterious figure jumped down and started to untie me. I tried to push them off but it was useless. They put their arm under my shoulder and lifted me up. I stopped fighting back as they led me to a little shack in the woods. I was out of breath for some reason. I looked into their eyes and bit my lip.
“You are?” I asked, wiping the sweat from my forehead. The figure grinned and smiled
“ Fletcher James Husky,” He said. I bit my lip hard but not hard enough to draw blood. Fletcher looked at me with a look saying ‘I just saved you’ so I replied rather coldly “Thanks,” Fletcher looked at me and tilted his head before putting his hand over my mouth and pushing me to the ground. I struggled against his grip and ended up pushing his hand off.
“What was that for?” I asked, he replied by putting his finger to his mouth and a look telling me to shut up, so that’s what I did….I shut up. I stayed quiet till Fletcher made a tsk sound and shook his head at me disapprovingly.
“What were you thinking?” He asked, but to be honest I wasn’t. I sighed and shrugged.
“ I don’t know!” I whined like a kid. He rolled his eyes in a way I found strangely attractive. I pushed that thought away and put my loose curls behind my ear. Fletcher sighed and to my surprise replied in a strangely calm voice, “It’s okay, just don’t do it again,” And helped me off the ground. Fletcher had a muscular build, but seemed to be a real softy. I put on a look as if I were studying an animal in a cage. He gave me another strange look. “You done examining me?” He asked, causing me to blush, only slightly so I quickly bit my lip and frowned wincing in pain. Fletcher looked at me, you could see every muscle in his face relaxing.
“Don’t hate me,” He said, picking me up in bridal style. I grumbled something under my breath, and looked up, sighing and wrapping my arms around his neck for support. I instantly noticed his face muscles tense again but I didn’t let go of his neck. He carried me to a small camp, a big tent with a wooden sign that read ‘Hospital’ He carried me in and laid me down on a small mattress. He handed me a bundle of different leaves and some water. He left without a word and left me to rest. I fell into a deep deep sleep and awoke to the sun blinding me through the tent’s thin walls. I sat up and looked to my side flinching at the sudden noise of the tent opening. I looked over and blinked a couple times to make sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me. Fletcher walked through the tent's flap. He laid back next to me, his hands on his chest. I rubbed the back of my neck and sat up.
“What are you doing here?” I asked. Fletcher looked over and scrunched up his nose. He didn’t reply for a good second. He took a deep breath and shrugged.
“Just making sure you're alive,” He said, with a small nod. I bit the inside of my cheek and nodded back. He looked at the wall for a few seconds before shaking his head and looked at me.
“ Here eat this,” He said, handing me a bundle of strange herbs. I held them in my hand.
“I’m not eating any of this,” I said shaking my head. Fletcher rolled his eyes.
“ I’m not going to kill you, there for pain,” He said pointing to the leaves. “They all have different color rubber bands,” He told her, pointing to a green rubber band. “This is Echinacea leaf for the infection,” He then pointed to a red rubber band and took away a purple one. “The red is Ginkgo or Maidenhair tree,” He said and stood up. I nodded like I understood what he was talking about. I took a small bite of each leaf and shrugged.
“ It’s gonna take a little for it to kick in,” He told me, so I replied with a smirk.
“ No really?” He grinned and even let out a small laugh. I nodded “So what happened?” I asked ready for an explanation. He looked at me and closed his eyes.
