Chapter 1
I was asked this question by a fellow on the site not long ago, and I realised that whilst you are able to understand and place the things and people I talk about at Hogwarts, Cokeworth, Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley I cannot expect you to understand who my mother was unless I explain her in a little more detail. To me she was everything. To me she was my world, in fact to me she still is everything because my uncle made sure that she remained perfect to me. Perhaps this is because I have the darkest of fathers that he wanted her to remain untarnished in my eyes.
Severina Snape was the older sister of Severus Snape. They were raised in Cokeworth, and were raised with an abusive father. As I understand it, they spent time as children together, as much as they could away from the house. Both probably trying to protect each other as much as they could. I think that Severina was sexually abused and Severus was beaten from a young age. People don’t often offer this information willingly so I don’t know for sure.
When Severina left for Hogwarts it left Severus alone in the home with their parents. She was the first in a long line to be sorted into Gryffindor. Perhaps the sorting hat sore in her the ability to overcome things. I believe that it sore in her Elvish qualities that my uncle told me she possessed. Unfortunately, I was never able to see that for myself but he told me that she was able to see the good in people no matter what their faults may be. Her parents were not happy about it and she suffered even more for it.
Finally, it was time for Severus to go to Hogwarts. However, they were not in the same house and Severus grew to be very alone. Severina was a good student, she achieved her best results in Transfiguration and Defence against the Dark Arts. By the time she finished at Hogwarts there was a dark power rising up. She wanted to find out about this powerful wizard. She knew it would impress her parents so she invested time in the Death Eaters. She saw that Voldemort was creating this army and was going to rid the wizarding world of non-magical people. She spoke to her brother about it and he was concerned for her safety. He was worried that she would get hurt and he wanted to protect her. It was history repeating itself, I guess.
Severina Snape became a prominent person with the Death Eaters. She was known by many as being a bystander. She is one of the first to have infiltrated the Ministry of Magic, as she was in the training program whilst recruiting for the cause and maintaining a loving relationship with Voldemort. She may have been a Death Eater but I am still proud of her.
There were people such as Bellatrix Lestrange, Narcissa Malfoy & Lucius Malfoy and Pius Thicknesse that knew that Voldemort and Severina Snape were seeing each other but nobody knew quite how serious it really was. Apparently, she called him Tom when they were alone. I imagine it is possibly the reason that her brother became such an important figure too.
Severina started to become despondent. She went into hiding, and it was because she was about to give birth to her daughter, Sarah Louisa Snape-Riddle. She knew she couldn’t hide it any longer so she went to Cokeworth. Her parents were no longer there. Tom came and started organising somewhere for her to live with the child. The child was to remain a secret.
Severus was the only other person to know that Severina had a child. Voldemort’s child. Some people came to the house for meetings with Severina and Severus but nobody saw me. Bellatrix was always the jealous kind. I have never worked out whether it was for my mother’s beauty or the love of Voldemort that she was most jealous of. Whichever way it was it killed her.
From the pieces of information, I have gathered over the years and the dates of different events I can only assume that it was Severina’s ability to see the good in Tom Riddle that got her killed. She was able to see the good in the Death Eaters and yet sometimes it clouded her judgement on the bad. Her body was found in the living room by her brother Severus. She was killed by a killing curse in 1980. Her 3-year-old daughter was lying next to her, waiting for her to wake up.
Severina’s death had a great impact on the wizarding wars. Without it Voldemort would not have been driven to hunt down as many people as he did. He would not have found out about the prophecy and the Potters would not have been killed and Voldemort along with it.
When Severus Snape found his sister, he promised her that he would look after and protect her daughter as if she were his own. He loved his sister, there was no unbreakable vow made but he protected his niece until the day he died.
Together, Always.
