Essays are totally optional, though I usually do them. They are actually quite easy. They will award you extra house points. My first tip is if you get a 69 or below on your essay, try re-submitting it. Sometimes they will think you changed it and give you a higher grade. For example, on my first essay, I got a 60, I submitted it again without making any changes and I got a 99%.
