Chapter 4
Jake told me to put on one of the trench coats that the harpies had left behind to hide the scratches. We got off at the next stop, and he told me that he knew a place we could go that was about a ten minute walk from the subway stop. We set off, me leaning heavily on him because I could barely stand, let alone move. The rest of the walk passed in a blur, with me focusing just on moving one foot in front of the other.
It took us longer than 10 minutes, but we eventually got to an apartment in a small boring building. Jake ducked down to the bottom of the door, and removed a key from a small panel that blended into the door so well that I wouldn’t have noticed it otherwise. He opened the door, and helped me walk in.
Jake looked at me. “You need to rest,” he said, and pointed towards the couch. I tried to protest, but I realized that I was indeed exhausted. I stumbled over to the couch, and sat down on it. I closed my eyes, and immediately fell asleep.
