An idea hits me

Chapter 34
I lay awake for a long time before finally falling asleep. My dreams weren't much better than reality however; they alternated between me running through the halls of the Labyrinth, trying to get out but hopelessly lost, and Camp Half-Blood, burning. A voice taunted me, telling me that this was all my fault and that everything I ever touched would crumble to nothing.

I woke up when Cress touched my shoulder. "Your watch," she whispered before walking over to her sleeping bag and lying down. I sat up, grateful for the respite from my nightmares.

I looked around; nothing had changed. We were still on the ledge overlooking the abyss. I walked over to edge and sat down.

For the first time since I had gotten the prophecy, I forced myself to think about it and try to figure out what it was all about. Of course, we had tried to do that in the rec room back at camp, but to be honest, it hadn't worked really well because of the sheer number of people that had been there. Besides, we had new information now.

The escape room had obviously been my first trial. I wonder for a moment about which god sent it our way, but the answer's pretty obvious: Athena, goddess of wisdom. But what about the second part, where I saw my father? That one's harder to figure out. Then I remember the owl, that was an automaton, and the bronze gears in the walls of the escape room. Probably Hephaestus. Which means my dad being there was just an illusion, a mechanical trick, designed to throw me off balance.

I breathed a sigh of relief; part of me had been scared that I just abandoned my dad there, without even trying to help him.

So we were done two of our trials, the ones that Athena and Hephaestus designed. That meant ten more. I got out my sketchbook and made a list of all the Olympian gods, then crossed out Athena and Hephaestus.
