Chapter 22
“Woah woah woah!” said Cress. “You’re getting ahead of yourself. You skipped a line. ‘Twelve trials she’ll face, before the final test? That sounds… Like Hercules.”
“I think that means somebody’s going to be testing me,” I said. “Yeah, like Hercules, I guess.”
“And then Camp Half-Blood will be attacked.” said Allena, the head counselor for the Aphrodite cabin. “That’s probably what is meant by ‘the final test’.”
“If from each task she does return/ the help of the gods she shall then earn.” I said. “I think that means that if I complete all their tasks, one of the gods will come and help us fight against this ‘one of power’.”
“Who is that though?” asked Ben, from the Ares cabin. “There are a lot of powerful beings out there who could want to destroy Camp Half-Blood. Zeus himself is considered the most powerful of gods, right?”
“Twelve tests, twelve Olympians,” noticed Emmett from the Athena Cabin. “That’s probably not a coincidence.”
“What if we ask Mr. D?” asked Bella, daughter of Hephaestus.
“We can’t,” said Chiron. “He left this morning. I didn’t ask where he was going, but…” he trailed off.
“But who is this ‘one of power’?” asked Ben. “We need to know who we’ll be up against, other than the standard monster hordes.”
“What if…” I said quietly. “What if ‘one of power’ means not somebody that is powerful, but somebody that is actually the one of power? Like the god or goddess that represents it.”
“What’s the last line again?” asked Jake.
“If from each task she does return/ the help of the gods she shall then earn.” I recited. “That only reinforces the idea that the Olympians will be testing me. And that this ‘one of power’ isn’t somebody we can easily defeat without help.”
