Friday the 13th
Chapter 18
It’s true what they say. Friday the 13th is indeed an unlucky day. Or maybe I’m just the unlucky one.
After about 3 weeks at Camp Half-Blood, I had gotten used to my new blades and the life of a demigod; at least, for time being. Cress, Jake, and I have gotten a lot closer. It seemed as if I finally fit in, although I was still the “one unclaimed” as Rowan from the Apollo cabin had dubbed me. I hadn’t told anybody else about my ancestry, not even Chiron or Cress.
And then, I had another dream. Of course it was a dream. And, obviously, it happened on the night of Friday the 13th. I’m not usually the superstitious type, but this made me doubt it.
This dream, though, was a little different from the one I had had the first night I was here; at least, I didn’t appear in the passenger seat of my mom’s car. Rather, I went to the black marble chamber straight away.
“Hello, Evie,” said Thanatos as he rose from his throne, which now stood at the front of the room. “We meet again.”
“It appears so,” I said, wary of the god of the dead. “Is there anything specific you called my dream self here for? I was in the middle of a very pleasant dream where I was riding a unicorn, and I’d love to get back to that. So if you called me here just to chat….?”
“No,” he said. I’m half certain that there was a smile lurking in the corners of his mouth. “Evie, I brought you here to warn you. I may not be one of the Olympians, but-” Darkness enveloped me again, stopping me from hearing his voice and seeing him; but then it disappeared, and I could see and hear him again. “Listen Evie,” he said, his face entirely serious now. “I can’t keep you here for much longer; something…interfering.” He was now blinking in and out, and I could hear only bits of what he was saying. “…Olympians will make… series of tasks and….for you. Ask Chiron….for quest…..get prophecy. But don’t tell….I was here!.... you hear that?....I….not here.” And then, the darkness enveloped me once more, and brought me back to consciousness.
