WAVE.

Aurora Lovecraft's "Wave." is a three-part allegorical narrative based on a personal struggle with bi-polar depression. In less than 1000 words paired with absorbing soundtrack, the haunting nature of a battle with mental illness is conveyed through an anonymous girl's frightening encounter with a universal fear - drowning. (Not recommended to a younger audience due to sensitive themes)

Chapter 4

Dear Reader,

Thank you so much for taking your time to read my first published book here! I originally wrote this story for an assignment in English class based on literary realism about a year ago (though, I definitely made a few tweaks since then). However, when I joined HiH I found that a good majority of the material in the library wasn't even related to Harry Potter. That being said, I decided it would be appropriate to share this personal favorite of mine with you before I wrote any HP-related content.

I'm planning on eventually writing a full-fledged book focusing on the story behind my character here on HiH (read my backstory on my profile - https://www.hogwartsishere.com/829793/ - for more info). However, because I would truly want to put a ton of work and detail into this, it might take quite a while. In the meantime, I do have a few more of these bittersweet short stories that I could publish here if you'd like.

I would really appreciate any sort of feedback you have. Feel free to follow me and/or post on my wall or DM me, whatever you're comfortable with! I would absolutely love to talk with my readers regarding stories, writing style, reactions, ideas, or anything :) Also, let me know if you'd like those other short stories mentioned above and what you thought of the soundtrack!

Oh, and just a side note in case it's not obvious: I will not be updating this book because as you can see, it's already a finished short story. Also, I promise my other stuff isn't as dark and horror-like as this one. That's just the style I chose for this particular work.

Sincerely,

Aurora Lovecraft [Pseudonym]

-- EXTRA STORY INFO/EXPLANATION --

As said in the description, this short story/essay is an allegory for mental illness, specifically a fluctuating battle with anxiety and depression. I'm not going to point out direct explanations for certain symbols, but I hope you were able to get a feel for these particular experiences while reading. This was a very personal writing experience for me, as I have struggled immensely with both of these demons both in the present and past. I, as well as many others, have noticed many similarities between depression and the sensation of drowning. In my own mind, they are both different sides of the same coin. The only difference is one involves a sea of water while the other is a sea of hopelessness and despair. Many people, particularly those with bi-polar, experience bouts of bliss or even euphoria mixed in between the depressive episodes. However, these elated periods are unfortunately not to be confused with true happiness or joy as you could see.

I know it's rather short, but it is my hope that this helped you better understand what these terrible feelings are like for someone battling them and how to help a friend that is struggling. If you yourself are fighting any kind of mental illness, I really hope this allegory helped you realize that you are not alone. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. I know you feel like giving up but you have to keep fighting the Waves. Reach out and help WILL come! Also, I'd be happy to message with anyone who needs it.

Just remember: don't say you SUFFER with depression. You BATTLE with depression.
Because when it hits you,

you hit back.
