Danger, Danger

Chapter 3

After leaving her greenhouse, Leona went into town to shop for a dress for the party that night. She stumbled upon a shop that sold Japanese style dresses, and being a lover of Japanese culture and the like, Leona entered the shop. She browsed the shop and found a Wa Lolita style dress that she really liked.  It was black with purple-pink trim and an icy blue corseted sash around the waist. It had long, flowing sleeves and a short skirt. She found the dress in her size and walked up to the register to purchase it. A few minutes later, she walked out of the shop with her new dress in hand and made her way back to her house to prepare. On the way back to her house, she crossed paths with a strange man who rubbed her the wrong way. There was something about him she didn't like and the way he was hiding something also didn't sit very well with her. He traveled with a cart and she couldn't see what was in the cart, but she felt something was off. She left the area as quickly as she could and made her way back to her house.

After arriving back home, Leona and Tarrance had lunch and then Leona decided to take a nap and then have a bit of a soak in the tub before getting ready for the party.  Leona laid down in bed and fell asleep. Earlier than she was expecting, she was woken up by the sounds of yelling outside. She made her way outside, after redressing into her new dress, white stockings, and black pumps and redoing her hair into tangled buns, and saw the man she saw before. She saw Angelo speaking calmly to the man, asking him why he was there and what he wanted, and she saw Dawn, Angelo's girlfriend, backing him up. She saw the other couple, Tiana and Artemis, also giving support to Dawn and Angelo. Tarrance met Leona outside, kissing her on the cheek, and the two went to back the others up, Leona pulling out her wand, before realizing she never grabbed it after she had used it to make her potion. She had some special abilities, but her magical powers would help her better in this situation than her other abilities would.

The man reached into his pocket and pulled out some seeds and threw them on the ground. He waved his wand over them and the seeds grew into what looked like plant tendrils. She knew she didn't like this man, and now she knew why. This was Devil's Snare, and everyone had to be careful, or risk death. Angelo reminded everyone to be on their guard, as Devil's Snare attacks when a person's back is turned, before telling everyone to get prepared to defend their area. Leona smirked, knowing that if she focused enough on the target, she could pull off this spell. She focused on her wand, knowing she'd need it, as fire was what they needed, not ice.

"Accio wand!"

Her focus paid off as her wand appeared in her hand. She was now ready to fight with the rest of her friends. Angelo already had his wand out, Dawn, Tiana, Artemis, and Tarrance got theirs out and were also prepared to fight. Leona, being a Ravenclaw, was already coming up with a strategy to defeat the man. Her strategy was, one or more of the group would distract the man while the remaining group would use Incendio on the Devil's Snare, as that was the only way to defeat it.

"Angelo, we need to distract him before we can take out the Devil's Snare, otherwise he's just going to use it against us."

"Right, Dawn, Tiana, Artemis, with me. We'll distract him while Tarrance and Leona take care of the Devil's Snare."

"Right." Dawn replied to her boyfriend.

The foursome began shooting spell after spell at the man while Leona and Tarrance headed over to take care of the Devil's Snare with Incendio. Leona really wanted to be with the squad that was taking care of the man, but Angelo knew what he was doing when he left his assistant in charge of eliminating the true threat. The man could wait until after the Devil's Snare was killed. However, the man had a couple more tricks up his sleeve for the distraction squad. He reached into his cart he brought with him and pulled out a pot. Inside the pot was a baby-faced, wrinkled thing whose head resembled tobacco leaves. Leona watched as he pulled out the pot, but as she began to warn the others, a tendril had wrapped itself around her and ensnared her in its clutches. Because she was suddenly ensnared by the Devil's Snare, she dropped her wand. She knew she couldn't struggle, but she had no way of killing it with the fire she hoped would consume it, so she did the only other thing she thought of, tricking the Devil's Snare into thinking she was dead so it would let her go. She closed her eyes and willed her body to go limp. Before "dying," she heard Angelo accio earmuffs for everyone, including her, and she saw the man pull the Mandrake out of its pot.  After she "died," Tarrance sent an Incendio at the Devil's Snare, followed by another one, just to be sure. He rushed over and caught Leona's limp body in his arms before she had a chance to hit the ground. The man noticed this and grew angry that none of his plants had defeated them, so he reached into his cart again and pulled out a few black slug-like things. Angelo knew them immediately as Bubotuber, and if they were to be squeezed, they would release a foul smelling pus that smelled of gas. He had to get the Bubotuber away from the man and save his assistant and friends, but how?

Suddenly, a surge of magical energy shot out and hit the man, knocking him off his feet. He dropped his Bubotuber and Angelo snatched it up. Leona woke up and walked toward the downed man, a purple-pink glow in her eyes. Her special abilities had taken over her magical abilities and her body, making her stronger. She made her way to the downed man and forced a huge surge of energy toward him, defeating him in one hit. She didn't kill him, but she knocked him around pretty good. After her release of a massive surge of energy, the glow from Leona's eyes disappeared and she passed out once again into her boyfriend's waiting arms. The fight of the dangerous plants was over and the motley crew had won the battle.

Later, when Leona woke up, it was party time, and party she did. Everyone partied late into the night.
