Chapter 2
I marched up to his house, and barged in without knocking.
" Hey, Moony..." I said, hope dripping from my voice.
Silence.
Slipping off my boots, I slowly crept up the stairs and pushed open the door to Remus's bedroom. The door creaked rather loudly. I swallowed.
" Remus?" I breathed.
As my eyes adjusted to the darkness of his room, I saw Moony laying in his bed. My face broke into a sad smile.
" Hey, man. I'm...I really messed up, okay? And...and I understand if you want me to leave, right now, and never come back. Even if it breaks my heart. That's...that's how I feel." I said.
He didn't answer. Not even a peep.
Wow, I thought. He must be really upset.
I carefully walked into his room, and up to his bed. Remus just lay there, motionless. My breath caught in my throat as I slowly pulled back his blankets, my hand shaking.
I gasped. There was a dagger sticking out of his stomach.

Desperate, I shook Remus. Anything to wake him...
" Please don't be dead, please don't be dead, please, please, please don't be dead..."
He coughed weakly, and his eyes fluttered open. " Wha-Sirius?" He croaked. " When did you--"
I cut him off by leaning down and kissing him. To my surprise, he pulled away.
" Sirius, what are you doing? I thought you made a mistake..." Moony said, his voice pained.
I froze. " What?"
Remus looked away. " Remember? It was ' a mistake ' to some here. So why are you back?" He said, voice cold.
A tear slid down my cheek, and for the first time ever, I didn't try to hide it. I shook my head to clear it.
" I'll-I'll explain later. But, why are you...What happened?" I asked, my heart aching.
Remus shrugged. " Doesn't matter."
I raised my eyebrows. It obviously mattered! I quickly removed the dagger and placed healing spells on the wound. In a matter of seconds, Remus was completely healed.
He was just in so much pain. That, and he, more or less, hated me. Which I deserved.
Finally after about 10 minutes of unnerving silence, he spoke.
" Sirius."
I eagerly jumped forward and plopped onto Moony's bed from where I was sitting awkwardly on his armchair.
"Yeah?"
" Do you remember...our first kiss?" He asked, still not looking, not even glancing, my way.
I nodded slowly. " Yes, a few days ago?" I asked, confused. " Of course I remember it! I would never for--"
" No, not that one. The...very first one. In sixth year?" Remus said, slowly turning to face me, wincing from the movement.
The color drained from my face, but I managed to produce a small, wavering smile. I laughed nervously.
" Oh." I said, my voice soft. " That one."
