Chapter 1
Gaby was at Walmart shopping for school supplies. Her first year of high school would start in a month, and she couldn't have been more excited.
She had just put a colorful notebook in her basket when someone behind her knocked something off a shelf. Gaby quickly bent down to pick the object up, meeting a girl's hand in the process. She looked up at the girl and quickly grabbed the item, standing up and putting it back on the shelf. The girl held her gaze as she did this, and Gaby found it quite difficult to look away.
In the back of her mind, she saw a younger version of the girl playing with some older girls, probably her sisters. Suddenly the vision stopped and Gaby was left staring at the girl. Not awkwardly, but in a way that made her want to look away. She blinked, clearing her mind.
"Sorry, I um..." Gaby said, embarrassed. How could I do that? No one stares at a complete stranger like that... But her eyes are so beautiful... Stop it, Gaby.
"It's okay," the girl said calmly. "Thank you for getting that for me." She seemed completely unaware of what had just happened.
"No problem." Gaby gave the girl a small wave and walked away. She couldn't see it, but the girl smiled and waved back as she walked in the other direction.
