Chapter 2
I saw a small group of people standing a short distance from the Whomping Willow, but not close enough that the tree was able to attack them. As I drew nearer I noticed that a cold silence lingered among them, everyone hadn't forgiven Draco yet. I could tell, but there was no time for that, I didn't care if they tried to kill each other! We needed to save Makayla! "Why did you want us to come here, Luna?" Ginny asked. "I need your help. Makayla was taken by the ministry of magic." I explained. "Why?" Questioned Ron. I hesitated, should I tell them Makayla's biggest secret? "Because Makayla's a werewolf." I said firmly, glaring at them all as if daring them to say that the ministry had a good reason for taking her. But nobody did, "We've got to save her!" I cried. "We'll need a plan." Hermione said reasonably. "I've already got a plan!" I said loudly. Typical Hermione, needing a plan before she saves someone's life, I thought angrily. "Do you care to enlighten us?" Harry asked. "We're going to go to the ministry and tell them that Makayla's harmless, she takes Wolfsbane Potion." I said simply, "And if they say no, then we'll break into Azkaban and help her escape." I continued. "Great idea! Perfect plan! WAIT WHAT?!" Yelped Neville.
"Luna, you can't expect us to help an Azkaban prisoner escape, not like that." Harry said anxiously. "Oh, but you can save Sirius?" I said in a dangerous voice, advancing on Harry. "You'll save Sirius Black when you're 13, but you can't save Makayla when you're 18? Azkaban's not even guarded by dementors anymore! So you don't have to be frightened!" I was aware that I sounded slightly hysterical but it's what they're used to isn't it? Loony Lovegood, the hysterical, idiotic lunatic! "Fine!" I said loudly glancing around at them all. "Fine!" I said again turning to walk away from them. "Fine then! I'll save her by myself! I'll send you a postcard from Azkaban since it'll be impossible to do this on my own and I'll probably get caught!"
I know that I didn't sound like my usual, bubbly, kind self but they were ready to stand around and let Makayla stay in Azkaban! "Luna wait!" Someone behind called. I turned around, ready to start yelling at them about how I wasn't going to waste any time! We hadn't wasted any time 4 years ago when Harry thought that Sirius was being tortured! And I know that this is real! This wasn't a dream I had, this was the real deal! "We're sorry. We should have, realized that this is important. I mean, this is what we always do! And now what? Voldemort's dead so we're going to start being good and playing by the rules? When have we ever done that?" Ginny asked, gazing around at her fellow students. I felt relieved, Ginny was on my side. Ginny, my best friend, the one I could always count on, was here.
Hermione looked hesitant but then she said, "Are we going to ride thestrals again?" I smiled at her. "It'll be different now that we can all see them!" Ron said, keen to be part of the conversation. "How do get them to come to us though? In case no one's noticed, Hermione and I didn't just take a shower in Grawp's blood like last time." Harry said. "Way to be a stick in the mud, mate." Ron said glumly. "There." Draco pointed. Hagrid seemed to letting his dead chickens... dry? It was the only word for it. There were four dead chickens, that should be enough for us attract some thestrals.
"This again." Ron said as he sat on top of his thestral 15 minutes later. It had taken a short amount of time for the thestrals to come to us once Hermione used a charm to cut the chickens open and blood had poured out of them. I leaned close to my thestral, I could hear it's breathing. "Ministry of Magic, visitor's entrance, London." I said confidently.
