Training Scores & Interview Preparations
Chapter 9
I wake up to the sound of banging doors from upstairs. I wonder what they are angry about. I sit up and see and Avox. She hands me some clothes and I put them on. It's a grey tracksuit and white shoes. I walk down the hall and into the kitchen. I see an Avox cooking the food. I realised I just ate the food and didn't think about who made it. Lyma calls me to her. I see Patrick and Porter talking quietly in a corner. I look at her quizzically. "We have interview preparation," she tells me. I nod and sit on the couch. She asks me what I thought about the different angles. "I liked the illusive angle," I say to her. She nods but lowers her voice as she asks me the next question. "Do you have any memoirs from home or tokens from home?" Lyma asks. My face must look worried because she tells me I look scared. "They won't find out about it Finch, don't worry," she says. "How do you know about that? Are you going to tell anybody?" I whisper. She tells me she won't but I'm not convinced. "If 1 more child can survive than I'm fine with that. I know I'm supposed LOVE the games but I don't. It goes against human nature to kill innocent people or kill anyone!" she says quickly. I look into her eyes and I know she's telling the truth. I hand over my brooch reluctantly. "I'll get it back to you just before you go into the hovercraft," Lyma whispers. I notice Patrick and Porter staring at me. I smile and they turn away. Lyma continues the interview talk and we decide to go for illusive & shy. At that moment, the TV turns on and Caesar Flickerman's face lights up on the screen. Patrick comes over and Porter follows. Porter starts to talk but Patrick tells her to be quiet. The scores are about to be announced!----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Caesar clears his throat before speaking, "Welcome to the announcement for the training scores! We will start from District 1 and end with District 12." He explains to the audience about the training scores and how it will help us in the Games. Caesar starts to announce the scores, "Marvel from District 1 with a score of 10! Glimmer from District 1 with a score of 8!" An 8! Patrick, Lyma & Porter scoff loudly. Careers usually get at least a 10. How did she get a 8? "Clove from District 2 with a score of 10! Cato from 2 with a score of 10!" Caesar says. He moves through the next districts. Ellie gets a 6 and I'm quite shocked. She must have done something impressive. Maybe she won't get killed on the first day! Then it's my turn. "Finch from District 5 with a score of 5!" Caesar yells. I'm stunned. A 5, that's worse than Ellie. "At least people won't look at you too much," Lyma says. Porter looks at her confused. "Don't you want to get her sponsors?" she asks slowly. Lyma nods but I know what she's thinking. "Patrick from District 5 with a score of 7!" the host shouts. Patrick looks amazed. Porter is congratulating him. Again, Caesar moves through the districts. Zasha, the boy from 7, gets an 8. I thought he would get a good score. Then it's district 11. "Rue from 11 gets a 7!" Lyma nearly falls off the couch. "H-h-how did she get the same score as Patrick?" Porter practically yells. I shrug. Caesar then announces the boy from 11 gets a 10. That's why the Careers wanted to recruit him. He's got strength and sponsors. "And now from District 12, Peeta gets a score of 12!" Caesar announces. Lyma looks like she was hit with a club, Patrick chokes and Porter gasps loudly. "Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire, from District 12 gets a 12!" Caesar continues. The girl on fire. So that's what they are calling her. Porter says, "Well the two from 12 are the ones to watch this year. They better have good interviews!" Caesar wraps up the show but not before reminding everyone that the interviews are tonight. I sit there for a few moments before standing up. I walk to my room and lock my door. I have a bath and pamper myself. I think I deserve a pamper since this will probably be the last time, even if I make it back to District 5. A few hours later, Lyma knocks on my door to tell me the stylists want me. I guess I have to get ready for the interviews. I open my door and follow her to the stylists. I breathe in and let the stylists at me.
