The Chariot Parade
Chapter 4
Lyma paused and turned towards us. "Don't make eye contact with anyone, don't attract attention to yourself and most of all don't talk to anyone but your stylists," Lyma said hurriedly. I was confused. Why doesn't she want anyone to notice us? Was she working with my mother? I shook it off. Porter walked inside and me & Patrick followed. I looked around it was a huge hotel with 12 floors, one for each district. There was also a training floor so technically there was 13 floors. Lyma led us towards a separate place. It was the styling room. They washed us, made us look pretty before dressing up in our district costumes. Lyma led me to a table in an area of the room. I looked around and saw all the other tributes being led over to different tables as well. 2 Capitol people plucked my eyebrows, waxed my legs and cleaned me. They then led me to a private room. My stylist said hello but didn't introduce herself to me. "You're from District 5 so, power," said my stylist. She put me in a silver costume that apparently was supposed to look like a power plant worker. I thought I looked like a spoon. She applied a little bit of makeup to make my features pop. I followed her out and down a passage. We met Patrick and his stylist on the way. He had the same costume as me. "Do you agree we look like a spoon?" Patrick whispered. I nodded because at that moment one of the stylists turned around. We followed them to a place brimming with people. Tributes, stylists and camera people buzzed about. We arrived at a huge chariot with horses attached. Patrick's stylist told us to get in. I climbed up and Patrick came behind me. Suddenly, a countdown begins. 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. The chariots started moving. District by district we go out. As we head down the road I look around. I see the other tributes outfits. Apart from District 6 and 8 I think we have the worst costume. Around me the crowd erupts. I look back and see the 2 tributes from District 12 wearing clothes that appear to be on fire. "At least they won't look at me," I think to myself. We finally reach the end of the road. All the carriages stop in front of Snow's building with a balcony at the top. On that balcony is Snow, the President of Panem. He clears his voice before starring his speech, "Welcome, welcome tributes, we welcome you. We salute your courage and your sacrifice. And we wish you Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favour." He finishes his speech and the crowd erupts. Our chariot starts moving again and we go back behind the stage. We talk to our escort and mentor. They congratulate us but all they can talk about is the District 12 tributes. We walk back to the hotel but on the way out I notice the Career tributes, from 1&2, glaring at them. We walk back to the hotel. I get changed and fall into bed. The next few days are going to be long and I don't know if I'll have any rest so I close my eyes and fall asleep instantly.
