Chapter 20
Again, I wake to a cannon. I climb out the cave and look into the sky. I see the face of the boy from 10. I assume that the Careers did that. I crawl back into the cave and stretch my legs. My bag is on the floor next to me and I notice I'm running out of food. My mouth is dry so I drink some water. I eat some more food, not much, but enough for me to feel a little bit less starving. The rest of the stuff is sprawled out all over the floor but I just leave it. I walk outside and look around for tributes. When I double, no triple, check that no-one is there, I walk carefully towards the middle. As I'm walking, I see a huge plume of smoke rising into the air. Marvel, Clove and Cato run towards it. Noah is left in the centre. I quickly and quietly sprint to the middle. Noah hasn't noticed me. I jump on the same path that the Careers did yesterday. Suddenly, I land on an uneven patch and I lose my balance. I try to stay upright but my I fall forwards. My heart pounds as I close my eyes waiting for the explosion- but there is nothing. I stand back up and keep moving. I reach the pyramid and see some apples. I grab two before running away. I don't look behind me as I run. I disappear into some tall grass. I hear footsteps behind so my pace quickens. I scale a nearby tree. The apples are in my pocket and they're getting a bit squished. I look down and see Noah. He looks around for a few moments. He starts walking back. I breathe a sigh of relief. "BANG!" A loud noise echoes through the arena. Noah starts running back. I climb down because I want to see what happened. The landmines went off but that was too loud to be a person. I follow Noah and stop in the bushes just before the middle. I lie on my stomach and look out. The pile of supplies is no longer. It's been blown to bits! I smile. Everyone is on a level playing field now. The Careers are back and they look angry. Noah isn't running anywhere which is not very smart. Cato walks up to him and starts yelling. Cato raises his arms and places them around Noah's neck. He twists his hands and Noah falls to the floor. A cannon sounds straight after.
