Game Preparation Part 2
Chapter 14
When the hovercraft is at a good height, Atala stands up. She tells us she'll be coming around with out trackers. She starts with Patrick. As she gets closer I pull out the pin. When she asks for me arm I pretend to fumble the pin and hit it into the side of the device. Atala ignores my mistake and pushes the needle into my arm. I grimace at the pain. She then moves to Katniss who asks what she is doing. Doesn't she know about the trackers? Well this will be a shock for her then. Surprisingly, Katniss doesn't grimace. Then Atala moves to Clove and Rue. Clove is still angry at Glimmer and doesn't even flinch when the tracker is inserted. Rue clenches her teeth and I notice she's trying not to cry. Atala then goes back to the front of the hovercraft. We sit in silence. After what feels like years, the hovercraft lands. One by one we get led off the hovercraft. Some soldiers lead me to a room towards the end of a passage. Inside the room is dirty tiles, some stinky old bed and a tube at the back of the room. I suppose that's how I'll get to the arena. I walk into the room and the soldiers slam the door behind me. "Well, well ,well. If it isn't Miss Finch," a voice says to side of me. I look and see Lyma! "Hello! And by the way I kind of have to be here. I mean I have to go into the arena," I say seriously. Lyma laughs at my seriousness. I smile. Lyma quietly asks about my pin and tell her what happened. "That's good. I think you have to get into your tube now," says Lyma sadly. I nod and walk towards it. Lyma walks towards me and embraces me. "Good luck Finch. Stay safe and I hope to see you on the other side," she says as her eyes well with tears. I hold back my tears as I step into the tube. The door closes and I start to rise. I give one last wave to Lyma before I can no longer see her. Soon, light streams into my eyes. My platform stops. I'm in the arena.
