Kevlar is an aramid synthetic fiber invented in 1965 by Stephanie Kwolek, a DuPont researcher. Its main feature is the great mechanical resistance to traction, so much so that for the same mass it is 5 times more resistant than steel.
Kevlar also has great resistance to heat and flame. Due to its resistance characteristics, it is used as a reinforcing fiber for the construction of bulletproof vests, extreme sports equipment and for components used in airplanes, boats and racing cars.
