Chapter 6
~~Harry's POV~~
So, secret. That meant I couldn't brag about Draco to others...Oh, well. I saved my pouting for later, because I had really missed him.
I held him tighter, and tried to focus on the kiss and not all the events. But I couldn't keep my mind from wandering, and I could feel that Draco wasn't focusing, either.
I slowly pulled away. " Draco...What's wrong with us?" I asked.
Draco looked at me, full in the face. " Maybe..."
I knew what he was thinking, but I refused to believe it. I turned away.
" Harry, I mean, you're distant! I don't really know how to react to that, you know? Becau--" Draco started, but I cut him off.
" Oh, but when you're distant, I'm just supposed to deal with it?" I hissed, the edge in my voice coming out sharper than I meant. " Er, Draco..." I tried to patch it up, but the damage was done.
Draco stepped back as if I'd slapped him. " Harry, do you not like me anymore? Do you want to break up?"
The color and feeling drained from my face. " No, Draco, never..." I breathed. " Did I...give you that impression?"
Draco glanced away, then nodded.
I nodded as well, sucking my teeth. The strange thing was, I didn't feel like crying. Draco had treated me awfully, then expected to be able to crawl back and everything would be back to normal.
But, our relationship /was/ worth saving...
" You really hurt me, Draco." I said, my voice small. " When you stopped speaking to me, and acted as if your status was more important than me? My heart was broken. It won't heal just like that." I snapped my fingers.
Draco stared at his shoes. " I'm sorry, Harry. You really do deserve better than me." His voice caught, and he rushed out of the room.
" Draco, wait! That's not what I meant!" I called, hurrying after him. But I was too late, he was already out of sight.
I sighed.
Why did I keep pushing away the one person I loved the most?
