Salazar Gets Name-Snake!
We all know Salazar Slytherin, the originator of Slytherin's house and one of the four founders, but did you know about a newly found snakey friend who stole his name! 'Trimeresurus Salazar', or the new ‘Slytherin snake’ was found in India, and at Hogwarts Daily News we are so excited about welcoming a new animal to the Wizarding World!
The snake – a green pit viper – is a beautiful green color, with red-orange stripes along with the head of males. It probably won’t create a school, nor build a secret chamber, but it is venomous, so it can easily kill its prey.
It’s not the first Wizarding World animal either! In 2014, scientists named a wasp ‘ Ampulex Dementor’, named obviously after the famous guards of Azkaban, our prison. In 2016, a triangular spider was named ‘Eriovixia Gryffindor’ after the Gryffindor founder, Godric Gryffindor. It’s actually said to be because of the spider’s resemblance to the sorting hat!

Girl Power!
There have been so many strong, powerful females in Harry Potter, so let’s celebrate them here in this issue of Hogwarts Daily News! These women have not only been strong and important to the wizarding community, but they have shaped the future for all witches and wizards. There are many important females that need to be acknowledged, but for the sake of time and space, I will be naming three women, and their life and deeds. They deserve to be celebrated, so let the girl power commence!
First of all, we can’t talk about girl power without bringing up Hermione. She is the definition of girl power when it comes to Harry Potter. Being a bright and studious student from the first day we met her, to the fierce and powerful warrior in the Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione has shown great courage, wit, and determination. She was on the verge of being sorted into Ravenclaw because of her wisdom and desire to learn. She was even almost a hat stall! A hat stall is when the Sorting Hat takes a very long time (5 minutes or more!) to deliberate what house a student should be sorted in. The Sorting Hat is debating between two houses that both show the student’s personality and traits. Hermione, as well as Neville Longbottom, both became very close to being a hat stall. She grew up to be a wise, determined lady, and she placed the job of Minister of Magic!
Now, of course, we cannot forget the wise and fair professor, Professor Minerva McGonagall. She was a fair but strict Transfiguration teacher, and the Head of Gryffindor house. She was also an animagus, who could turn into a tabby cat. She was great friends with Dumbledore, and she later became Headmaster at Hogwarts when needed. In her early career, she played Quidditch when she was at Hogwarts, being the team captain for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. She even stood up to Umbridge and could spot trouble from a mile away. She is definitely not someone to cross! McGonagall was actually a hat stall, taking about 5 minutes and 30 seconds for the Sorting Hat to decide which house to put her in (Gryffindor or Ravenclaw.) Now, as we know, the Sorting Hat placed her in Gryffindor, for her bravery, loyalty, and courage. Though she was put in Gryffindor, we still know she is incredibly wise, don’t get me wrong! She was an important role model in the wizarding world, and still, we look up to her great deeds, in the battle of Hogwarts, and to the wizarding community as a whole. Last but not least, Molly Weasley. Now, she may not have seemed like a very important person when you first met her, but she is feisty and determined. She makes sure her kids are safe, and that they definitely have enough food to eat! She can always lecture her kids and husband, but to Harry, she is sweet as honey!!! She uses her amazing magic skills to run her tight ship at home, but also to help out during the Battle of Hogwarts. She takes down the Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange in the Battle of Hogwarts, one of her best moments ever! And if you mess with her kids as Bellatrix did, she will make sure you are punished, so don’t be fooled by her sweet motherly personality! Molly Weasley is a powerful witch who will do anything to keep her family safe, and definitely is a role model for kids and parents! Now, I know that isn’t all the female role models in Harry Potter, but they are some of the most important. Of course, there are still many others like Ginny Weasley, Nymphadora Tonks, Luna Lovegood, and much more! I hope you enjoyed this girl power article, and keep on celebrating those powerful women!
