Chapter 5
Sixth grade is when I started self-harm. I hid this from everyone. I would always wear my jacket, to hide the lines. I would wear a big robe at home to make sure my parents didn't notice. Whenever I had sudden bursts of anger at myself, I would cut my left arm. Now to one specific of my friend here, you noticed the lines, but you didn't know the story. I told you that I fell and scraped my arm. I hid it from my best friend. When I was at home and didn't have the robe, I would make sure my arm was hidden. If you do self-harm, do not hide it. Confide in someone. If you think, "No, I can't confide in anyone, no one would understand!" Then explain why you do self harm. When you hide it, you might feel even worse because you think that no one noticed and no one cares. They didn't notice because you hid it from them. Here's a tip that helped me out a lot: If you wanna stop self harm, think of your favorite animal/insect, or a living thing that has a meaning to you. For me it was butterflies because for my aunt's funeral, we released butterflies to symbolize her freedom. Now draw that animal/insect on the place you harm yourself. Name it after someone important to you. Then think this: if I harm this part of my body, I've harmed (someone important to you). Draw this every time you have an urge to harm yourself. You cannot harm this drawing until it fades away naturally.
