Chapter 1
My fingernails blackened and lengthened into claws, I felt my spine curl and my legs bend. It felt like someone was slowly breaking all of my bones one by one. My teeth grew into fangs, and my ears stretched into points. finally, the fur pushed its way through my skin like blunt needles. I tried to scream but all that came out was a low pitched howl that filled the shack with the sound of a werewolf in agony.
When I woke, I was curled up in a corner. My body was weak and I felt something on my arms sting. I looked down to see a brand new gash around my elbow, along with a bite mark on my shoulder. I looked around for my uniform and found it at the foot of the bed. Shaking, I got dressed.
I slowly walked down the tunnel that would lead me back to Hogwarts. As I approached the exit to the tunnel, I saw light and grass, and the swinging branches of the whomping willow. I clambered out from in between the roots of the tree and pressed the knot on the trunk. the branches stopped swinging and I looked up to see Peter, James, and Sirius looking at me. James brought a cloak and about to wrap me in it when Sirius stopped him. he grabbed my arm, and to my horror, I saw my blood had leaked through my shirt, and my sleeve was covered in it. James and Peter gasped. and Sirius rolled up my sleeve to reveal the cut.
"are you ok?" asked Sirius.
"I'm fine," I replied quietly, "I've had worse." I didn't think the cut was that bad but seeing the look on Peter's face reminded me that blood and pain were just a given in my life, not so much in theirs.
"We are bringing you up to the hospital wing right now," Said James.
"no, really! I don't care, it doesn't hurt." I tried to release my self from Sirius's grasp, but his grip was firm. I stopped struggling and looked him in the face. "please let me go." he relinquished his hold and said,
"if you insist Moony, but I am seriously worried about you, and I'm not even joking." I massaged my arm and muttered,
"well, that's a first." I didn't understand why I hurt my self when I was a wolf. Dumbledore said it had something to do with having no human prey, but something about that still doesn't click in my head. My friends started to walk me up to the school.
"This shouldn't go on for long," said James, "you know the biting and scratching," he added when I looked confused. "we have a plan and it can not fail." James had been mentioning this "plan" of his almost every day for the last year. whatever his plan is, I hope it works because although I didn't admit it at the time, every time I wake up to find I bit, scratched, or hurt my self, cried.
