Chapter 6 - Helena
Chapter 6
Stop. She told herself. That necklace is an Artefict. If anyone found it, of course they’d pick it up. They could get a ton of money for selling just that necklace alone.
She patted Eliza’s neck, and she shook herself, as if reassuring Helena everything would be okay. “That’s right girl.” She could feel Freay waking up in her pocket. She took him out, and placed him on her shoulder.
“I still think your bond with your Draid is amazing.” the boy ahead of her said, turning to face her. She scowled at him, and he smiled. She couldn’t get over the similarities to her Jason, the way they both smiled, even when Helena was giving them the fiercest glare she could think of.
“Like I said, we’ve been together for a long time.” She said shortly, lightly tapping Eliza. She sped up, pulling Helena level with Jason. He stretched, placing his hands behind his head. “I know someone who has a Draid. Their bond is nothing like yours though.”
“I didn’t ask for the personal workings of your life.”
“Of course you didn’t. I just don’t understand why we have to travel in silence.”
“I don’t know why you’re even following me.”
“You’re the one who’s following me.”
“In your dreams.”
“Come on. We’re taking the same path. Might as well travel together.”
“You have no idea where I am going.”
“Yeah, sure. But this path leads into the Forest of Dreams, which is dangerous to travel alone. It’s better if we stay in numbers for that.”
Helena had to admit he had a point. The last time she went into the Forest of Dreams was when Lizzie needed some of the sap from the tree that grew there. They barely made it out alive, even with Jason with them. Two alone would not be much help.
“Fine. You can tag along. But only until we reach the next town. After that, we’re going our separate ways.”
“Got it!”
There were a few moments of blissful silence.
“But is it dangerous for just two people?”
Helena wanted to strangle him. They were fine. Helena was much stronger now than she was back than. She could fight for the both of them. But if Jason couldn’t fight, they might be screwed.
“Can you fight?”
“Of course I can fight! Every tomb-raider can!”
“Then we’ll be perfectly fine. Stop worrying. The Forest of Dreams isn’t that bad.”
Oh, how wrong she was.
