Chapter 3 - Helena

Chapter 3
Helena watched Freay sleep. She knew they had to leave soon, but she didn’t want to wake him up. She sighed, and stood up.
She walked over to the mirror hanging on the wall. She was wearing a pale blue tunic, with a belt wrapped around her waist. Her rapier hung on the belt, right where her hand fell naturally. She wore light brown pants and brown heeled boots. Her cloak was hanging around her shoulders, the hood not yet pulled up. Her orange eyes shimmered with the remnants of magic, but were also dimmed from pain. Her purple hair reached her mid back, but she had pulled most of it into a low ponytail. A section was held in the front, so she had a group of hair brushing her face, much like the way Lizzie did all those years ago.
Helena shook her head, clearing away unbidden memories. She picked up Freay, who was sleeping on the nightstand. She slipped him into her cloak pocket, and left the room.
Once downstairs, no one even looked at Helena. Back in Ilblaise, everyone would be staring at her, wondering what she was doing in a place like this. But she liked it this way better.
She thanked the bartender, paid him, and left. She headed to the stables that were attached to the building, instantly heading to a red colored horse. Her mane was the color of Lizzie’s cinnamon, dark red almost reminding Helena of all the blood spilt that night. She shook her head, brushing the horse.
“It’s okay Eliza….it’s okay,” she murmured.
“I’ve never seen a horse that color before,” someone said behind her. Helena whirled around, her hand already on the hilt of her rapier. She relaxed once she realized it was Jason Nicholls, from the night before.
“Don’t you know it’s rude to sneak up on someone?” Helena asked before turning back to Eliza. He had a sound of agreement, and walked up so he could look at Eliza a little better. “She’s really pretty. Where did you get the coat and mane color?”
“It’s natural. Her family’s been with mine for generations.” That wasn’t much of a lie. “They’ve always been this color. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I should go.” Helena pulled Eliza out of the stable, who followed obediently. She doesn’t know what made her do it, but Helena turned around at the last minute. What she saw made her heart stop.
Jason was holding a necklace of diamonds, with smaller ones at the edges and the biggest in the middle. “Where...where did you get that?”
“Hm? Oh, I’m a tomb-raider. There’s a nice one right under that building. I went in last night and took some stuff. Why, you know who this belonged to?”
Helena nodded, her mouth going dry. “Yes. The last known owner of that necklace was Lady Mikayla Eisenhower, wife of Lord Edward Eisenhower, advisor to King Cyrus Lancaster a hundred years ago.”
