Lesson 6: Fire to Snakes

Chapter 6
~Long Term Transformations

-I-A and I-I transformations "age" over time
-creature wears down/runs out of energy
-magic/spell duration depends on power of the spell
-the more willpower, the longer/stronger the transformation
-many use I-A transformations as a means of companionship
-if the caster dies, the transformed animal will "mourn" the caster for 3 days, then go completely still

~Reptiles

-similar to amphibians
-vertebrates with water-tight skin
-cold-blooded
-tetrapods
-scales
-soft shelled eggs
-camouflaged skin
-can remain motionless for a long time
-8240 species
-includes turtles, lizards, snakes, crocodiles, and more

~The Transformation

-Block:
Spell: Fire to Snake
Incantation: Incendi Serpens (in-SEN-dee SUR-pens)
Wand Movement: Back and forth wave of your wand
Concentration: Medium - focus specifically on slithering movement of snake and its scale covered skin
Willpower: Medium

-Backfires: Snake bursts into smoke (too much willpower), snake-shaped rope of flame (too little WP)
-when performed in a duel, the snake will attack opponent
-when used in a duel with too little WP, snake may attack caster instead

~Origins

-Fiero Pennifold
-researched combative transfiguration/transformations that could double as defensive and offensive maneuvers for Ministry
-used by Severus Snape during the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998 against Minerva McGonagall after she conjured a rope of fire
-can also be used in conjunction with the Snake to Smoke and Smoke to Daggers Transformations
- After Professor Snape cast the snake, McGonagall thought on her feet and transformed it first into smoke, then immediately transformed that smoke into daggers to send at Professor Snape
