Chapter 10
The days seemed to go so slowly. Time was walking slower than a snail. I wished I could do something. I had to. Even if I spent only a month with Isabelle, she was my best friend! I can’t just move on. I’ll find out who killed her and I’ll kill them.
‘’Evelyn!’’ It was Laura. I wished she was still mad at me. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. ‘’Hey, um, you want to come to my house? We can talk-‘’ ‘’Laura, I appreciate it, but please, I’d love it if I was left alone’’
I knew I was being rude. But Isabelle was dead. Gone. I can’t be smiling and eating popsicles in a park. The park…….Isabelle had been so thrilled to see it, as though she had figured something out. I thought about the day when she appeared so tensed and said me to shut up and walked out on me. She had called someone. Her phone. I should go through it. But her parents had given everything to the cops for investigation or something.
But something should be there, right? I had visited their house. They had given everything. Her books, her artwork….How many pieces of artwork were there? They were all buildings. Four of them. I remember that, it was only a few days ago.
But what about the time I first visited her house. One was a castle, she was obsessed with them. The other was a normal house, her friend had gifted it to her. Her parents had gifted the other too. One was a mansion-like house, similar to her grandma’s house, which her mom had given. The other was a hut, since her father dreamed of living in one, which she found very weird. Wasn’t there another one?
It was a picture of the sky. A peacock was flying. But peacocks can’t fly. They can, but not that high. In the picture, the peacock was above the clouds. And it looked like it was flying very fast. Why would Isabelle have that? She isn’t interested in birds. And when her mom was giving away the paintings, she didn’t give the peacock one. Either she didn’t want to - or Isabelle hid it.
She must have hid it. But where? The park. Maybe she was wanting to hide it for a long time. And that’s why she was so thrilled. After the visit to the park, was the painting there? It wasn’t. I raced to the park. There was something in the painting. And it’s in the park. And I’m going to find it.
