Chapter 6
Will woke up with me gone. I was only hiding behind a nearby tree, but I was testing his reaction. He sat up and yawned, then looked around vigorously.
" Janie? Janie, are you there?" Will called. When there was no answer, he jumped up and ran around, checking behind every tree and bush to find me. I stifled a laugh. It was comical, how fast he was running.
Finally, I couldn't stand it. I hopped out from behind my tree and waited.
Will saw me, and sped up until he was right in front of me.
" Why did you hide from me?" He asked, and I could hear the anger and the relief in his voice.
" It was a test." I said, checking my nails.
" Did I pass?" Will said, shrugging again. I shrugged my shoulders as well.
" You'll see."
Will groaned. I smiled at the thought that I was keeping him waiting.
