Kiss Her Good-Bye
Chapter 3
~~~3 Years Later~~~
Slipping out of my stolen Invisibility Cloak, I looked around Azkaban. A gloom settled over the place. I shuddered, thinking about my poor sister. I had tried numerous times to break her out, but failed every attempt.
But this time was different. Those plans were foolish and flawed with hope.
I carefully stepped along, trying not to look down. You see, I was standing on a ledge on the highest point of the tower. This was where Kayra's cell was, according to my inside source.
Inching along, I finally made it to the first window and peeked in. A raggedy old man looked at me and smiled a toothless smile. I pursed my lips grimly, and moved along.
" Third window...third window...almost there..." I muttered to myself, my eyes squeezed shut.
Finally, I made it to the third window, and performed a spell that instantly shattered the iron bars. I hopped throw the narrow hole, and anxiously examined the cell.
A tall woman with thin lips and a tight bun noticed me. " Janie, I presume?" She asked.
I nodded. My source had told me about her. She was on our side. The woman's eyes turned down. Her face could've been carved from stone.
" Janie, I have some bad news. I tried to save her, and as did my grandson and son, but we could not succeed without blowing our cover. I'm terribly sorry, love."
I narrowed my eyes. " What are you talking about? My source--Your son said he would do anything to save her! This can't be right."
The woman's gaze softened in pity. " Janie, honey, your sister was given the Kiss this morning. There was nothing we could do."
My heart stopped. " Where is she? I'm sure she's fine. No harm done. Kayra's extremely strong, you just don't know her."
The woman's face hardened again. " Now, Jane, don't be unreasonable. You know that--"
I glared at her. " One, don't call me 'Jane'. Two, get out before I kill you."
The woman nervously backed out of the cell, no doubt to call the other guards. I only had a small window of time.
" Kayra?" I called. " Kay? Where are you? It's me, Janie. I'm busting you out of here! "
A limp form hobbled out of the shadows. I squinted. That couldn't be...My eyes widened. I ran to my sister and hugged her.
" Kay! Yay, you had me scared for a minute! Are you okay? C'mon, let's get out of here!" I said, ecstatic.
Kayra fell over, and I saw her eyes. They were empty, gone, the flame that once roared in her heart now less then a spark.
I fell limp. No, no, no, no. How could they do this...No, no, no!
A team of wizards and Dementors flooded the tiny cell, but I barely noticed. I was carried to my own cell, imprisoned, but I hardly cared. I didn't eat for months. I would've killed myself, had I had my wand.
Kayra might as well have been dead. She was just as gone.
If only my spark had just gone out. But no, the fire had just ignited.
The game? Was far from over.
