Commit the Crime, Pay the Time
Chapter 1
Kayra and I ran down the street ways, laughing as we shot windows with a Muggle's gun. Kayra shot a police officer's house, one, two, three, times and screaming filled the air. A woman and her children hurried out of their home, terror scribbled on their faces.
Kayra smirked at their fear, and reached for her wand. I nervously glanced at her. I loved my sister, but there was no need to harm an innocent family.
" Kay, maybe we should just go home now." I said, trying to sound bored.
Kayra scoffed. " What, Janie!" She whined. " Just one. Little. Hex?" Between each word, she shot a silent curse at the family, until they were all dead.
I swallowed. " Kayra--" I started. Police sirens blared in the distance, and I felt the whole of my being grow cold and dark.
Kayra's face went chalk white. " Janie, Dementors are coming. Run, Janie. Run!"
Tears streaming down my face, I stumbled and ran, regretting every step I took. Why I hadn't I stayed? I should've saved her. I could've saved her!
I came to an alley and slunk into it, dragging my feet along.
I collapsed from exhaustion, sadness, anger, and the wonder of what happened to my big sister.
What happened to her...Because of me.
